(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of November 12, the Government Office held an online conference to review two years of implementing Resolution No. 88/NQ-CP dated August 24, 2011 of the Government on strengthening the implementation of key solutions to ensure traffic order and safety. Comrade Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee chaired the conference.

After 2 years of implementing Resolution No. 88/NQ-CP dated August 24, 2011 of the Government, the traffic order and safety situation has been initially re-established, achieving the goal of reducing traffic accidents and congestion set by the National Assembly. Traffic accidents have had positive changes, with a sharp decrease in all 3 criteria of number of cases, number of deaths and injuries, exceeding the target of reducing traffic accidents, especially reducing road traffic accidents.

After 10 years, the number of traffic accident deaths in 2012 dropped below 10,000 people/year. In 2012, there were 36,376 accidents nationwide, killing 9,838 people and injuring 38,060 people; compared to the same period in 2011, there was a decrease of 7,446 accidents (16.99%), a decrease of 1,614 deaths (14.09%), and a decrease of 9,529 injuries (20.02%). In the first 10 months of 2013, there were 24,369 accidents nationwide, killing 7,812 people and injuring 24,378 people; compared to the same period in 2012, there was a decrease of 1,092 accidents.

In Nghe An, after 2 years of implementing Resolution 88/NQ-CP of the Government, traffic accidents on roads, railways and inland waterways in the province have been controlled and have tended to decrease. In 2011, there were 378 traffic accidents, killing 254 people and injuring 358 people; in 2012, there were 336 traffic accidents, killing 224 people and injuring 354 people; in the first 10 months of 2013, there were 263 traffic accidents, killing 172 people and injuring 230 people.

To achieve the above results, in the past 2 years, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has promptly and synchronously implemented documents directing the comprehensive deployment of solutions to ensure traffic safety; Focusing on implementing specific solutions according to the content of Resolution 88/NQ-CP. The work of preventing and controlling drivers of road motor vehicles using alcohol has been focused on by the Provincial People's Committee, contributing to raising awareness of traffic participants; Continuing to maintain and promote the wearing of helmets; Promoting propaganda of traffic culture and traffic safety education in schools; Patrolling, controlling and handling violations has been directed to be deployed drastically....

However, the traffic safety situation is still complicated, the number of cases, deaths and injuries caused by traffic accidents is still high; Although propaganda work has been directed with attention, it has not yet met the requirements, the awareness of self-compliance with traffic safety laws of traffic participants is still weak, especially among young people; The work of preventing and controlling motor vehicle drivers using alcohol is not very effective; violations of traffic safety laws are still common...

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc acknowledged the results after 2 years of implementing Resolution 88/NQ-CP. In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the National Traffic Safety Committee to continue reviewing legal documents related to the implementation of Resolution 88/NQ-CP; the Ministry of Transport needs to focus on implementing solutions to ensure traffic safety such as strictly handling cases of oversized and overloaded vehicles; strengthening inspection, examination and strictly handling negative behaviors of law enforcement officers while on duty; promoting propaganda and dissemination of traffic safety laws to all classes of people....
