Strengthening propaganda of knowledge about the Vietnam - Laos border

The conference aims to provide information on the border situation, promote the significance and importance of building, managing and protecting the border, the main content of two very important legal documents, namely the "Protocol on the border and border markers of Vietnam - Laos" and the "Agreement on the regulations on border management and border gates of Vietnam - Laos" which have just come into effect as well as the border-related agreements and treaties of the two countries.

The Vietnam - Laos border area has a 2,337.459 km long border passing through 10 provinces of Vietnam and 10 provinces of the Lao PDR.
Since May 2008, Vietnam and Laos have implemented a master plan to increase the density and improve the system of border markers in an accurate, modern, sustainable and unified manner along the entire border. Thereby, facilitating the management and protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country and serving the socio-economic development of the border area.
With the efforts of both countries, by September 2013, the work of increasing the thickness and embellishing the border was completed. The entire route now has a total of 792 locations equivalent to 834 markers, in addition, both sides planted 29 additional markers equivalent to 27 marker locations.
The completion of the increase and restoration of national border markers has clearly demonstrated the determination of the Party, State and people of Vietnam and Laos for a common border between the two countries of peace, stability, cooperation and development; is a premise for the two countries to sign the Protocol on the Vietnam-Laos border line and national border markers" and the "Agreement on the regulations on border management and border gates of Vietnam-Laos. Thereby contributing to improving the effectiveness of border work in the new situation; effectively preventing the phenomenon of infiltration and immigration due to lack of understanding of the border line and also an opportunity for each country to develop the socio-economic border area...

In the discussion at the conference, delegates emphasized the importance and great significance of completing the demarcation of national borders. Therefore, to raise people's awareness of the Central's policy; continue to propagate and explain to cadres, party members and people of all walks of life; create high consensus among people in border areas, act as a nucleus to create consensus in society, high unity in border protection and management work...
To do so, comrade Pham Van Linh requested that the provinces sharing the border in particular, neighboring provinces and the whole country must proactively orient and direct media agencies to promote propaganda in many forms and must be easy to read, easy to understand, easy to remember. How to make people understand that special, unique solidarity and friendship stemming from geographical proximity, sharing history of fighting against common enemies, close cooperation and mutual support in the cause of protecting and building the country today. Along with that, there are more preferential policies for border areas, specifically priority on people's livelihood projects, socio-economic development...
Nghe An shares a 419.5 km long border with the three provinces of Hua Phan, Xieng Khouang and Bolikhamxay, Laos. This border line has been thickened and embellished at 105 locations with 116 border markers and 44 markers; of which the border line adjacent to Xieng Khouang province has been thickened and embellished at 27 locations with 36 markers; the Bolikhamxay line has 39 locations and 39 markers; and the Hua Phan line has 39 locations and 41 markers. By 2013, the work of thickening and embellishing the border marker system in the province has basically completed the set plan. |
