Increase national agricultural reserves

August 21, 2012 06:54

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent a document to relevant ministries and branches requesting to increase the national agricultural reserve base for the 2013-2015 period for submission to the Prime Minister for consideration.

This Ministry stated that due to the impact of climate change, natural disasters and epidemics are becoming more and more complicated, causing great harm to agricultural production. To proactively respond, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed to increase national reserves in 2013-2015 by reviewing the inventory of goods and the possibility of disease outbreaks and natural disasters to determine the appropriate structure of reserves to increase purchases, as well as the ability to circulate goods.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed to purchase an additional VND400 billion for items such as chemicals for aquatic and livestock disinfection, vegetable seeds, rice and corn seeds. In addition, an additional VND113 billion is needed to build two new storage facilities for plant seeds and one for veterinary medicine. Currently, the national agricultural storage system is seriously lacking, while the demand for materials for agricultural production is increasing.
