Family health insurance premiums increase from July 1
The basic salary increased from 1.39 million VND to 1.49 million VND, so the health insurance premium per household also increased by at least 21,600 VND per year.
According to Decree 146/2018/ND-CP guiding the Law on Health Insurance, the family health insurance premium for the first person is 4.5% of the basic salary. The second, third, and fourth persons pay 70%, 60%, and 50% of the first person's premium, respectively. From the fifth person onwards, the premium is 40% of the first person's premium.
When the basic salary increases, the health insurance premium for the first person increases the most, by 4,500 VND per month, and for the fifth person and beyond, it increases by 1,800 VND per month.

The benefit level for family health insurance participants is 80% of the cost of medical examination and treatment if they go to the right hospital. In case of medical examination and treatment beyond the prescribed level, the patient will be paid 40% if treated as an inpatient at a central hospital; 60% if treated as an inpatient at a provincial hospital; 100% if treated as an inpatient at a district hospital.
As of May 2019, 84.5 million people nationwide had health insurance cards, with a coverage rate of 89%. The goal is to have over 95% of the population covered by health insurance by 2025.
