Adding 15 more public 10th grade classes in Vinh city to cool down the admission season
(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the pressure of the rapidly increasing number of students in Vinh city, the education sector has made many efforts to reduce the heat of this year's 10th grade admission season. In particular, the sector has added hundreds of quotas for public schools in the city.
On the evening of April 1, the livestream dialogue program with the topic "Tense race to enter public grade 10 in Vinh city" organized and produced by Nghe An Newspaper received the attention of tens of thousands of readers.
With the participation of guests: Mr. Chu Duc Thai - Head of the Department of Social Culture, Provincial People's Council; Mr. Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training; Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao - Head of the City Department of Education and Training, many issues surrounding the 10th grade enrollment and school planning to anticipate population growth in the coming years were frankly mentioned.
Increase public grade 10 enrollment quota
This is the information that most parents are most interested in during this year's 10th grade admission season, when statistics in Vinh city show an increase of 811 students (accounting for more than 10% of the total number of students increased in the province).

Previously, Vinh city was the hottest recruitment area when the admission scores for public schools in Vinh were the highest in the province. In the 2023-2024 school year, students with an average score of 7 points/subject still failed to pass the entrance exams to Ha Huy Tap and Le Viet Thuat High Schools (the admission scores were 22.6 and 22.7 points, respectively).
Meanwhile, even though he got 8 points per subject, the student still lacked more than 1 point to be admitted to Huynh Thuc Khang High School (with a standard score of 25.35).

To overcome this difficulty, Mr. Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training said: This year's 10th grade entrance exam is the last exam according to the current general education program. From 2025, the exam will be organized according to the 2018 General Education Program and will have many innovations. To ensure the rights of the last generation of students studying under the old program, the Department's viewpoint is to ensure the rights of candidates and increase the chances of admission.
Specifically, in this year's enrollment season, the Department will add 3 classes to Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Ha Huy Tap High School, and Le Viet Thuat High School each. In addition, the Department will enroll 10th graders at Vinh University Practice High School and College of Education Practice High School, each with 3 classes.

Thus, in this year's enrollment season, the whole city has increased by 15Grade 10public. At the same time, consider increasing the enrollment quota for grade 10 for public high schools near Vinh in Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc.
Continue to expand schools to reduce population growth pressure
From the 2020-2021 school year to now, the number of 9th grade students in Vinh city has continuously increased and after only 4 years, the number of students has increased from 4,422 students to 6,219 students. This number will continue to double and 2.5 times in the next 3 years, because it is expected that by 2026-2027, the entire Vinh city will have 9,023 students taking the 10th grade entrance exam.
We are the ones who accompany the students from grade 6 to grade 9 and prepare them with both skills and knowledge, so we understand the concerns of parents and students about the pressure of admission to grade 10. Currently, less than 60% of students in the city are admitted to public schools in Vinh city every year, including Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University High School for the Gifted. To enter the city's public high schools, students must achieve excellent grades.

The head of the city's Department of Education and Training also said that Vinh City is a type 1 urban area, so the population growth and the number of secondary school graduates are very high, increasing from 800 to 2,000 students each year. "The city has forecasted this and included it in the annual education development plan and advised the Provincial People's Committee through the Department of Education and Training to partly solve the need to study at the city's public high schools," Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao added.
Specifically: The City People's Committee has coordinated with the Department of Education and Training to agree on the Project to build (facility 2) Huynh Thuc Khang High School in Kim Binh hamlet, Nghi An commune with an area of about 2.35 hectares, a scale of 36 classes, meeting the needs of children in the northern communes of the city and neighboring areas.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Dao Cong Loi also informed: In the immediate future, we will direct high schools to strengthen facilities and build more classrooms where possible to increase the number of students admitted.
In addition, when Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted moves to a new location, the Department will work with Vinh City to implement a plan to have Dang Thai Mai Middle School take over Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and develop Dang Thai Mai Middle School into a school that combines middle and high school levels.
In the coming time, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University High School for the Gifted will gradually increase the number of classes, creating learning opportunities for students in Vinh City. In addition, the Department also directed non-public schools with good educational quality such as Phuong Hoang High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Truong To High School, Hermann Gmeiner High School to increase the number of classes and students.

In the coming time, when implementing the project to expand Vinh city in 2024, Vinh City People's Committee will coordinate with the Department of Education and Training to receive high schools of Cua Lo town (2 schools) and 1 Nghi Loc 3 high school. On that basis, it will continue to balance and regulate students in all levels. At the same time, increase investment in facilities for high schools to meet the development requirements of Vinh city.
The increase in students in Vinh city is a hot issue and is also a matter of special concern to voters. Therefore, I think that in the upcoming sessions, the Provincial People's Council delegates will also have many questions and inquiries about this issue. From there, agencies, departments and branches will also discuss to analyze the issue and find solutions to reduce the pressure on parents and students in the city.
