Accelerate National High School Exam Review
(Baonghean) - Although it is the last days of the school year, the atmosphere of reviewing and preparing for the National High School Exam is still being urgently implemented by schools. This is also an important time for students and schools to learn from experience and make plans to achieve the best exam results...
Adjust according to the reference exam set
Up to now, the Ministry of Education and Training has announced the sample exam questions 3 times and each time there have been different adjustments. For high schools, the sample exam questions are also considered an important "handbook" from which to build effective review plans for students. Currently, although it has only been 1 week since the Ministry of Education and Training announced the sample exam questions, many schools have adjusted their high school exam review methods. At Vinh University High School for the Gifted, although Mathematics is the school's strength, teachers and students are not at all subjective.
On the contrary, the school also proactively researched the exam questions carefully to have steps to adjust the review. Talking about the reference exam questions, Master Le Manh Linh - Math teacher at Vinh University High School for the Gifted said: "With this exam, students are limited in using pocket calculators, requiring students to grasp and apply basic knowledge in the form of Math. In addition, students must also use logical thinking and reasoning to do the test.
In high-level application questions, the academic nature should be limited and essay questions should not be included in multiple-choice tests”… Due to changes in the reference test, the review outline for students has also been adjusted, in which the part of questions that can be solved by computer has been reduced to 10% instead of 30% as before. In addition, the school also encourages students to study in groups so that they can interact, help, and supplement each other’s knowledge.

At Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School 1, with 100% of students being Thai, Kho Mu, Mong, more than half of the school's grade 12 students chose to take the social science exam. With the reference exam for History, there are 2 types of questions that teachers have noted to review for students in the coming time: questions to choose the most correct answer and questions containing difficult words.
Student Truong Thi Lan Anh - Grade 12A1, Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School 1 said: Through 3 sample exams, I see that the structure of the exam is close to the curriculum, with clear differentiation from easy to difficult questions. This requires students to have a solid mindset and approach to achieve high scores.
Arranging questions in order from easy to difficult creates a comfortable and confident mindset for students when doing the test. Sharing her experience, teacher Vi Thi Hong, a History teacher at Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School 1, said: “During this final period, students should choose key phrases to learn, try to distinguish between historical terms and key phrases, and at the same time outline a general formula for them to learn, avoiding confusing this event with that event. During the learning process, try to find world historical events that have a direct impact on Vietnam, and apply them to real life.”
Don't be subjective.
This is one of the requirements made by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia during a meeting with high schools in Nghe An province. Because in the upcoming National High School Exam, 50% of the graduation recognition score will be taken from the transcript. Therefore, if there is no objective assessment, it is very easy for negativity to occur.
At Nguyen Duy Trinh High School, Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Lien - Principal of the school said: In the past, the school always reminded teachers to be honest in grading and recording students' grades. On the school's side, because the students' grades are updated monthly and posted in an electronic grade book, it is difficult to make adjustments.
The review process also shows that there are still many things to worry about. For example, in Vinh city, recently, 3 public schools in the city, Ha Huy Tap High School, Le Viet Thuat High School and Huynh Thuc Khang High School, have coordinated to organize mock exams for students.
However, in addition to the results not being as high as expected, the organization also revealed limitations, because this year is the first year that many exams are organized in the form of multiple choice. Mr. Nguyen Van Don - Head of Physics Department, Le Viet Thuat High School commented: "Through the times of organizing mock exams and doing real tests, I am now quite confident in the students' learning ability. However, the skills and operations of doing the test still need to be practiced, especially how to fill in the answers on the answer sheet.
For example, Physics is one of three subjects in the Natural Science group. In the past, students would submit their exam papers after completing a subject. But now, there is only one common answer sheet for all three subjects, including 120 questions, so students must be careful to avoid confusion and mistakes that can cause loss of points. You also need to pay attention during the exam, especially for combined subjects.
It is not excluded that there are exam rooms where students only register for part of the combined exam, so between exams, students will be in a state of “sitting around” and not allowed to leave the exam room. Therefore, to ensure objectivity, exam sites need to arrange exam rooms reasonably for each group of candidates, avoiding disturbing the psychology of other candidates.
At Nam Yen Thanh High School (Yen Thanh), after the mock exam, many teachers could not hide their worries when the number of students with scores above 5 only accounted for about 40%. For that reason, the end of the year is the time when the school speeds up review and pays special attention to average and weak students.
Sharing about the plan for the final month, teacher Nguyen Van Thanh - Principal of the school said: We instruct teachers to focus 60% of the core basic knowledge in preparing lessons and teaching classes so that students can achieve their graduation goals.
During the teaching process, it is necessary to create a friendly and open atmosphere to reduce the pressure of revision for students, and to avoid students skipping revision due to too much pressure. For good and excellent students, there should be flexible review time and increased self-study with guidance from subject teachers.
Regarding the National High School Exam, the Department of Education and Training has continuously sent documents requesting schools to accelerate review. At the same time, it has directly inspected schools to grasp the situation and have appropriate adjustment plans.
Mr. Vo Van Mai - Head of Secondary Education Department - Department of Education and Training said: In the remaining time, schools need to review and supplement the review plan, focusing on determining the content, duration, and form of review organization, and paying attention to guiding students to review on their own. Regarding review content, it is necessary to pay attention to identifying the topics that need to be reviewed for each subject; in each topic, clearly identify the knowledge and skill standards that need to be achieved; types/formats of questions and exercises; a system of questions/exercises at different levels to help students review and practice skills. In addition, based on the learning results, test results, and test purposes of students, adjust the content and choose appropriate review methods for each group of students from weak, average, good to excellent. For schools that have organized test, after the test, it is necessary to pay attention to analyzing the results, helping students promptly gain experience in doing the test and review and practice weak knowledge and skills. |
