Donating bronze drum to President Ho Chi Minh relic site in Laos

On the surface of the bronze drum, artisans carved an image of President Ho Chi Minh shaking hands with President Kayson Phomvihane.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos friendship relations, the Lam Kinh Cultural Heritage Association and the Thanh Hoa Antiquities Association, Thanh Hoa province organized the casting of a bronze drum as a gift to the President Ho Chi Minh relic site in Khammouane province, Laos.

On the surface of the bronze drum, the artisans carved the image of President Ho Chi Minh tightly shaking hands with President Kayson Phomvihane, along with two verses of his poem "Vietnam - Laos, our two countries/Love is deeper than the Red River, Mekong River" talking about the Vietnam - Laos friendship in both languages. This bronze drum is modeled after the Ngoc Lu bronze drum pattern, with a radius of 79 cm; height of 69 cm. On the body of the drum is engraved the declaration of independence. This is the 11th drum in the program of casting 100 bronze drums using traditional methods to present to units, relics and memorials nationwide.

Mr. Ho Quang Son, Chairman of Lam Kinh Cultural Heritage Association, Thanh Hoa province said: On the National Day of Lao PDR, December 2, 2012, the Association will coordinate with the Department of International Cooperation and the Vietnam-Laos Cultural Center to organize a ceremony to present a bronze drum to the Ho Chi Minh memorial site on the occasion of cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the President Ho Chi Minh relic site in Khammouane province.

Thanh Hoa is the homeland of the traditional craft of bronze drum casting. Bronze drums from Thanh Hoa bronze casting villages are present in many important events of the country such as: The 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi; the annual Hung Temple Festival - Phu Tho, Hue Festival 2012 and most recently, Thanh Hoa bronze drums were present at the ceremony to receive the certificate of recognition of the Ho Dynasty Citadel as a World Cultural Heritage.../.
