Job creation, poverty reduction for the blind

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 13, the Provincial Association of the Blind held a meeting to summarize the work of 2013 and deploy tasks for 2014.

In the past year, the association admitted 127 new members, bringing the number of members of the blind association to 2,608, operating in 215 branches of 19/21 districts and cities. The association's work has been focused on with many meaningful activities, of which, in the labor and production work alone, it has earned more than 6.5 billion VND, an increase of nearly 800 million compared to 2012. In addition, many district and city associations have built many models to help each other develop the economy such as developing traditional massage services, opening vocational training classes, and building a fund for poor women. The association has mobilized 26 members to build and repair houses with a total amount of more than 2 billion VND and lent capital to 206 members to reduce poverty.

In summary of the work in 2013, 2 groups and 5 individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the Central Association. The Provincial People's Committee awarded a certificate of merit to 1 individual. The Provincial Association of the Elderly awarded certificates of merit to 28 groups and 72 individuals with outstanding achievements and positive contributions to the association's activities.
