POSCO Steel Corporation (Korea) explores investment in Quynh Lap 2 Thermal Power Project

(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of May 27, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a working session with a delegation of POSCO Steel Corporation (Korea) led by Mr. An Sung Gu - Chief Representative of POSCO - South Asia Hanoi to introduce the Quynh Lap 2 Thermal Power Project to investors.Le Ngoc Hoa- Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting.Also attending were leaders of provincial departments, branches and sectors.

Quynh Lap Thermal Power Project is located in the construction planning of Dong Hoi Industrial Park, Hoang Mai Town, approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Decision No. 1359/QD-BCT, dated September 23, 2009 with an area of ​​283 hectares, scale of 2,400 MW, including 4 units with a capacity of 4x0600MW; invested in 2 phases: Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Plant is 2x600 MW and Quynh Lap 2 Thermal Power Plant is 2x600MW.

Currently, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group is taking steps to prepare for investment in Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Plant. For Quynh Lap 2 Thermal Power Project, the conditions on infrastructure, seaport, design capacity, etc. are similar to Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Project and there is currently no investor. The Provincial People's Committee is promoting the call for investors to implement the project.

Introducing the investor, Mr. An Sung Gu said that POSCO Group has invested in Vietnam since 1992 with a total capital of more than 2 billion USD, mainly investing in the steel industry. In addition, the group also invests in the construction and energy sectors. With experience in successfully investing in the construction of a number of thermal power plants in Vietnam, including Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant (Cam Pha Town, Quang Ninh) with a capacity of 2x600 MW, the Group is currently surveying a number of locations across the country to invest in the energy sector.

Mr. An Sung Gu - Chief Representative of POSCO - South Asia Hanoi affirmed that if invested, with 30 years of experience investing in the electricity industry, the company will proceed quickly and on schedule.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee welcomed and thanked the investors for their interest in the project; affirmed that this is a large project, if implemented, it will create a breakthrough in the industrial sector of the province. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee will create all favorable conditions, as well as apply preferential policies so that investors can invest in the project in the best way. The Provincial People's Committee hopes that investors will continue to research, learn and make an early decision to implement this important project. Also at the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee presented a meaningful gift expressing the affection of Nghe An people for the delegation.

Earlier in the morning, the working group had gone to the site to survey and assessed that the project had a favorable location and that if invested, the possibility of success was high. The investor would continue to research the project in depth to reach a final decision as soon as possible.
