(Baonghean.vn) - On November 4, in Cua Lo Town, IOM (International Organization for Migration) coordinated with Nghe An Border Guard to organize a training conference on community communication programs to prevent illegal migration from Vietnam to Australia.
Mr. David Knight, Head of the International Migration Organization Delegation in Vietnam, Representative of the Border Gate Department of the Border Guard; Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security and 45 delegates from agencies, departments and branches of Nghi Thuy and Nghi Tan wards, Cua Lo town and Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district attended.

During the 1-day period, the delegates were informed by the Border Guard representative about the situation of illegal immigration in the area of 2 wards of Cua Lo town and Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district, and the measures that have been and are being applied to resolve the above situation. IOM provided an overview of the situation of illegal immigration in the locality, summarizing some results from the IOM assessment survey report. Answering questions about the law on illegal immigration; introducing measures to protect the Australian border related to illegal Vietnamese immigrants by sea; introducing the set of communication materials, communication plans to raise public awareness about the risks and consequences of illegal immigration to Australia by boat; Instructions on using communication materials in the community, some management skills, program hosting, and teamwork. Representatives of the Border Guard and the Immigration Department also informed about the content related to Vietnam's current legal and policy framework on handling the crime of organizing illegal migration and participating in illegal migration.Delegates also discussed local challenges in combating illegal migration, communication measures, and actions to change people's views and perceptions to prevent illegal migration from Vietnam to Australia./.
