Research by American scientists indicates that physical activity enhances cognitive abilities and slows down the brain's aging process by 10 years.

Now you have a new motivation for those lazy days. Research from the University of Miami concludes that physical activity boosts brain function, specifically making the brain look up to 10 years younger.

According to the Times, the research team surveyed 1,228 men and women of various ethnicities living in Manhattan about their exercise habits and cognitive abilities, including memory, organization, reasoning, and speed of thought. Five years later, half of the volunteers retook the tests. The results showed that those who exercised more scored higher in cognitive abilities.

In addition, Dr. Clinton Wright, a professor of neurology and public health at the University of Miami and author of a study, found that diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease reduce blood flow to the brain, impairing cognitive function. "A sedentary lifestyle will only exacerbate these problems," the doctor warned.
