According to the Times, the research team surveyed 1,228 men and women of different races living in Manhattan about their exercise habits as well as their thinking abilities including memory, organization, reasoning and thinking speed. Five years later, half of the volunteers took these tests again. The results showed that those who exercised more scored higher on thinking.
In addition, Dr. Clinton Wright, professor of neurology and public health at the University of Miami, author of the study, discovered that diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease reduce blood flow to the brain, damaging cognitive function. "Lack of exercise will exacerbate these problems," the doctor warned.
