Focus on high-quality, high-yield varieties
(Baonghean)Spring crop is always considered an important production crop, with adjustments and additions to the structure, intensive farming techniques, seasonal requirements... in recent times, the spring crop has maintained a decisive role in over 60% of the total volume of agricultural products in the year. This spring crop 2013, focusing on selecting and structuring good, high-yielding varieties is considered a core issue.
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh - Deputy Head of the Agriculture Department of Anh Son district, said: In the spring crop of 2013, the district planted over 3,000 hectares of spring rice, of which over 2,400 hectares were hybrid rice, the rest were pure rice with the main variety NA2. According to the province's orientation, the district still selected the main varieties with medium and short growing time, high yield and less affected by weather such as LX25, Siny 6, Thien Nguyen Uu 9, and Nhi Uu 725 can still be included in the structure in localities that can adapt. Regarding the quality of seed sources, on the basis of selecting the correct set of seeds from localities, the district tightened the management of records, quality, and selection of distributors.
The reality in Anh Son is also the common situation of many localities in the province in selecting and introducing effective production varieties. Mr. Tu Trong Kim - Head of Crop Production Department - Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: In the 2013 spring crop production project issued to localities, the Provincial People's Committee directed the arrangement of the variety structure in the following direction: expanding high-yield rice varieties with good rice quality, not structuring low-yield rice varieties with high pests and diseases such as IR 1820, IR17497 into production, minimizing the use of poor-quality rice varieties with medium and low yield such as Nhi Uu 838, Khang Dan 18.
Spring rice care in Do Luong.
In this spirit, in the 2013 spring crop, in the intensive farming areas with high yield targets, priority will be given to using hybrid rice varieties Khai Phong 1, Nhi Uu 986, Q.uu 12, Thai Xuyen 111 and pure rice BC15; for the intensive farming areas with high yield and good rice quality, priority will be given to using hybrid rice varieties GS9, Syn 6, N.uu 69, PHB71, Nghi Huong 2308, BT-E1... Pure rice varieties deployed for production in this crop are NA2, NA09, VS1, Khang Dan Mut Mut, Hoa Uu 109... For the intensive farming areas with high quality rice and commodity production, AC5, RTV, Huong Thom 1, and Nep 97 will be used. At the same time, the province will continue to trial production of promising rice varieties, testing rice varieties with high yield potential and good quality such as Nghi Huong 2309, Xuyen Huong 9838, Quoc Hao 8...
For corn and peanuts, priority will be given to potential and selected varieties. According to this orientation, each district should only select 4-5 varieties, and in a field, 1-2 rice varieties with similar growing time should be selected to implement a good planting schedule, care, and pest management. All units that put varieties into trial production must have the consent of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, commit to districts and cities about the quality of the varieties, and commit to people about clear techniques. Absolutely do not use varieties that are heavily infected with pests and toxic diseases that have been exposed in previous production areas in localities.
It is known that in preparation for this spring crop, the Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company has signed contracts with cooperatives to build 3,000 hectares of high-quality rice in 8 districts using NA2 and DT68 varieties. Of which, Yen Thanh and Dien Chau districts each have 500 hectares, the remaining districts each have 200-300 hectares. These are two rice varieties that have been tested and are very effective, with high yields, reaching 6.5 tons/ha. The production of these varieties in the spring crop has many advantages such as low investment, short growth time, and resistance to pests and natural disasters. Currently, the Company has reserved over 50 tons of DT68 rice varieties and 500 tons of NA2 varieties. Localities that include these two varieties in the structure of large model fields will have their products purchased by the company at a price 10-15% higher than the market price at the time of selling rice to people, depending on the quality level of rice. In addition, this spring crop, the Company invested in 6 LVN14 corn fields in Anh Son, Nam Dan, Con Cuong and 2 DT 68 peanut fields in Dien Chau, Nghi Loc..
With a high determination, in the spring crop of 2013, our province continues to strive to achieve over 86 thousand hectares of spring rice, including 60 thousand hectares of hybrid rice, 26 thousand hectares of pure rice, 15 thousand hectares of corn and 10 thousand hectares of various vegetables and beans. Currently, the province continues to direct localities to soon complete the plan and choose the best option for the spring crop production of 2013.
