(Baonghean.vn)This morning, March 7, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to summarize veterinary work in 2012 and deploy tasks for 2013. Attending and directing the conference was comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. Attending were representatives of leaders of departments, branches, sectors, gardening associations, companies; leaders of the People's Committees, Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of districts; branches and centers under the Department.

In 2012, Nghe An livestock industry continued to maintain and develop. The indicators of total products and livestock income value increased and reached the plan. Currently, Nghe An has the largest herd of buffalo and cattle in the country (296,376 heads), the third largest herd of poultry and pigs in the country, livestock income currently accounts for 41.5% of the total value of agricultural products in the province. Technical advances in livestock are applied and transferred more and more widely and achieve high quality and efficiency.

Comrade Dinh Viet Hong spoke at the conference.

Over the past year, many types of livestock diseases have occurred in the province, however, most of the outbreaks were small-scale, detected early, quickly controlled, and contained within a small area thanks to timely and proactive epidemic prevention work. Vaccination, quarantine, and prevention of smuggling of livestock, poultry, and animal products have had positive and quite clear changes; environmental issues in livestock farming have been focused on, and pollution points have been promptly handled.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Dinh Viet Hong stated: In addition to the encouraging results, in the past year, livestock development has not been commensurate with the potential, the plan for developing the total livestock herd has not met the set targets; the summarization, evaluation and replication of models are still limited; the problem of environmental pollution in some farms and livestock facilities has not been thoroughly resolved... In 2013, the industry needs to make efforts to shift small-scale livestock farming to concentrated livestock farming, trace the origin of products, encourage closed production, and link between stages in the value chain to reduce costs, increase efficiency and added value. To achieve that goal, the solutions that need to be focused on include: Strengthening the management of breeds and livestock; focusing on directing the implementation of livestock development policies; continuing to deploy programs and projects; strengthening propaganda work...
