Focus on building a strong national defense

(Baonghean) -Colonel Tran Van Hung - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, gave an interview to Nghe An Newspaper on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22).

PV:In 2017, through the emulation movement to win, the provincial armed forces achieved many outstanding achievements. Could you review some of the results?

Colonel Tran Van Hung:Over the past year, thoroughly grasping Instruction No. 06 of the Political Department of Military Region 4 on emulation and reward work; the Party Committee and the Provincial Military Command have led agencies and units to closely follow the themes, contents, goals and emulation targets; develop plans, organize the launch and implement well the 2017 emulation movement with the theme "Efficiency, Discipline, Determination to Win".

In that spirit, the Provincial Military Command has effectively implemented projects and plans, typically: Project "Building a solid defense zone in the new situation"; Project "Building a number of key combat works in the provincial defense zone, period 2016 - 2021"; Resolution No. 54 of the Provincial People's Council on a number of regimes and policies for the militia and self-defense force and decentralization of tasks to implement militia and self-defense work in Nghe An province...

The Provincial Military Command has proactively implemented the Project to help Laos, opening military and defense training courses for Xieng Khouang provincial cadres,... In the 2016-2017 dry season, the Provincial Military Command's Collection Team coordinated with Xieng Khouang, Xay Xom Bun, Vientiane provinces, and Laos to search for and collect 104 martyrs' remains in Laos and 03 martyrs' remains in Ky Son district...

Maintain strict combat readiness; grasp, forecast, and detect early the political security situation on the western border, sea routes, and special areas; promptly review and adjust combat plans. Proactively and effectively deploy natural disaster prevention - search and rescue, fire and explosion prevention, and forest fire prevention in the area (21,642 soldiers and militiamen have been mobilized to participate in preventing and overcoming the consequences of storms No. 2 and No. 10; forest fires). Select and hand over 2,900 (100% of the target) young people to join the army. Maintain effective operations of 4 standing militia squads; 12 platoons and 11 marine militia squads.

Successfully completing the task of the provincial defense area drill and the defense area drill of districts, cities and towns (Vinh City, Thai Hoa Town, Hoang Mai, Hung Nguyen, Tuong Duong, Quynh Luu) ensuring strictness, seriousness, quality and absolute safety in all aspects was assessed by the Ministry, Military Region and Party committees and authorities at all levels as excellently completing the task...

With great efforts and summarizing the emulation movement to win in 2017, the Provincial Military Command was awarded the Emulation Flag to win by the Military Region 4 Command; and the Provincial People's Committee awarded the Emulation Flag.

PV:In 2018, what breakthroughs will the provincial military choose to create new momentum in the emulation movement to win, comrade?

Colonel Tran Van Hung:Entering 2018, the Provincial Military Command continues to strive to successfully complete the local military and defense tasks, focusing on successfully completing a number of key tasks such as: Continuing to thoroughly grasp and study the Resolutions of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo (term XII), the Resolutions of the Central Military Commission, the Directives of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Politics, and the Military Region on military and defense tasks in 2018 in conjunction with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's moral style, implementing Resolution 4 of the Central Committee (term XI, XII). Advising the Party Committee and authorities to lead and direct the organization to successfully complete the military and defense tasks of the province in 2018.

Focus on improving the quality and combat readiness of the provincial armed forces, special areas, border lines, and sea routes. Proactively monitor and grasp the situation; forecast and advise on timely handling of situations related to political security - social order and safety, natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, and avoid being caught off guard. Build an increasingly solid national defense, linking the national defense posture with the people's security posture. Proactively advise on synchronous solutions of the Steering Committees and Councils to ensure the effective implementation of national defense and security tasks.

Improve the quality of building a safe, self-governing, combat-ready base, ensuring political stability and initiative from the base. Improve the quality of education and training in national defense and security knowledge for all subjects. Take care to build a militia and self-defense force, a reserve force that is politically strong, with reasonable numbers, focusing on quality, especially the militia and self-defense force at sea; border lines. Actively participate in building local political bases; building new rural areas, helping people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty; preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; contributing to maintaining political stability, promoting economic, cultural and social development of the province.
