Pouring boiling water, pushing 5 colleagues into the sea to steal 600 kg of squid
While the fishing boat was drifting at sea, a fisherman suddenly attacked his sleeping colleagues and stole 600 kg of squid he had just caught.
On the afternoon of February 5, news from the Border Guard of Binh Dinh province said that the whereabouts of fisherman Giap Van Chin (22 years old, residing in Cat Minh commune, Phu Cat district, Binh Dinh province) - who jumped into the sea after the BD-30456 TS ship was attacked by fishermen hired on the ship to steal seafood - have not been found.
The ship is owned and captained by Mr. Giap Van Binh, 24 years old, Chin's older brother.
Previously, at around 11:00 a.m. on February 1 (the second day of the Lunar New Year), in the sea about 22 nautical miles south of Con Dao in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, Nguyen Huu Danh (43 years old, residing in Hoa Tan Dong commune, Dong Hoa district, Phu Yen province) suddenly poured boiling water on captain Giap Van Binh and 4 colleagues sleeping on the ship BD-30456 TS.
Threatened by Danh, all 5 fishermen jumped into the sea. Danh immediately took 600 kg of squid he had just caught and transferred it to another boat. The boat BD-30456 TS then caught fire and sank into the sea.
After jumping into the sea, 4 fishermen on the BD-30456 TS boat were rescued by a fishing boat and taken to Con Dao, of which 2 suffered severe burns and 1 suffered minor burns. The remaining fisherman, Giap Van Chin, is missing.
On the evening of February 2, the Border Guard and Con Dao District Police arrested Danh while he was hiding on a ship captained by Le Van Van (residing on Le Loi Street, Ward 6, Vung Tau City), about 15 nautical miles northwest of Con Dao.
The case is being further investigated and clarified by the authorities.
