(Baonghean.vn) - While fishing in the Gulf of Tonkin, a fishing boat of Nghe An fishermen broke down and had to drift. The captain issued a distress signal.

This morning at 8:30 a.m., November 1, the Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port (Nghe An Border Guard) received the handover of vehicle NA 95171 TS with 9 crew members from the Coast Guard.

Ship NA 95171 TS, captained by Mr. Tran Van Hai, born in 1975, residing in Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu, Nghe An, had an accident at sea on October 29.

Previously, at 0:30 on October 31, immediately after receiving information from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An province and the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center about the fishing boat with registration number NA 95171 TS having engine failure and drifting in the sea area about 100 nautical miles from Lach Quen, Nghe An in bad weather conditions, the Coast Guard Command ordered the Coast Guard Region 1 Command to mobilize ship CSB 9004 Squadron 111/Flotilla 11, which was on duty in the area of ​​Bach Long Vi island, to urgently weigh anchor and move to the area of ​​the ship in distress.

After 6 hours of urgent searching in weather conditions of big waves and strong winds, at 6:30 a.m. on October 31, CSB 9004 ship approached and examined the health and encouraged the fishermen of the distressed ship, and at the same time made a towline to pull the ship back to shore.

Captain Hai said the ship’s gearbox shaft broke on October 29 while fishing in the area of ​​the Gulf of Tonkin demarcation line. The crew tried to repair the problem but were unable to fix it, leaving the ship adrift in level 6 waves and level 7 gusts. On the night of October 30, the captain sent a distress signal.

Currently, the Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy port is completing procedures for fishermen to return to their families; encouraging fishermen to quickly repair and overcome problems, and continue to take their vessels out to sea.
