Freight train derailed, 120 BMW cars severely damaged
All are new cars and are all X-series, on their way to Charleston port (South Carolina, USA), meaning they are export products.
Rescue crews spent the morning and afternoon of December 5 collecting the damaged BMWs after a train carrying luxury cars derailed in Fairfield on May 4, according to KWES. The train was headed to the Port of Charleston from BMW’s Greer plant in South Carolina.

Two locomotives, 12 train cars and 120 BMWs were damaged in the accident. Fortunately, no one was injured.
"The BMW Xs are being transported to the Port of Charleston for export. Approximately 120 were damaged after the train derailed," the German luxury carmaker said in a statement. In an aerial video of the cleanup, at least one white BMW X can be seen with its roof crushed by an excavator as it was lifted from its position after falling out of the train. Dozens of cars, ranging from completely crushed to partially damaged, are also seen stacked neatly in one place.

The accident is expected to push some customers somewhere to the back of the queue, just when they thought they were due to receive their cars. It is unclear what BMW will do with the brand new X models damaged in the incident.
