Ships carrying Philippine fruits stuck in China
The Philippine government said on May 13 that it is making efforts to resolve the situation of a series of ships carrying the country's fruit exports being stuck at Chinese seaports.
Philippine fruit shipments, especially bananas, are slowly spoiling at Chinese ports as some products have been found to be infested with borers, according to export officials.

Responding to this, Ms. Abigail Valte, spokeswoman for Philippine President Benigno Aquino, said: "We believe the case will be resolved because our exported bananas have passed the strict standards in Japan."
Relevant agencies such as the Bureau of Agriculture and Trade and the Philippine Chamber of Industrial Crops have met with their Chinese counterparts to discuss ways to resolve the issue.
According to Philippine Government data, with a total export value of 470.96 million USD in 2011, bananas are the country's second largest agricultural export product, after coconuts, and China is the Philippines' second largest banana import market, after Japan./.
