According to the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet Daily News, the Russian ship named Yauda, 133 meters long, arrived in the Dardanelles Strait from the Aegean Sea at around 10:00 on November 30. It was heading towards the Sea of Marmara.

A tense moment occurred when the naval vessel encountered a Turkish submarine off the shore of the town of Eceabat in Canakkale province, Türkiye. The submarine was escorted by a Turkish coast guard vessel.

The Yauda reached the shores of Canakkale after one hour and five minutes and passed through the strait at 13:15.

The encounter is notable because Türkiye-Russia relations are tense after Ankara shot down a Russian fighter jet on November 24.

The Kremlin has demanded an apology, while Türkiye insists its move was purely defensive and that the crisis occurred only because Russia violated Turkish airspace.

"No country can ask us to apologize for doing our duty," Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said yesterday at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
