The fourth Gepard 3.9 missile frigate begins its journey to Vietnam
Foreign military websites have just posted images of Vietnam's fourth Gepard 3.9 ship being loaded into the cargo hold by the Rolldock Star transport ship.
Previously, on November 28, the Dutch transport ship Rolldock Star docked at Novorossiysk port (Russia) on the Black Sea coast, preparing to transport the fourth Gepard 3.9 missile frigate with temporary registration number 487 back to Vietnam.
Thus, the progress of handing over the ship as scheduled in November is considered to be completed. Most recently, the Gepard 3.9 was loaded into the cargo hold of the Rolldock Star super-heavy ship, ready for departure.
Rolldock Star is also the ship that brought the third Gepard 3.9 with temporary registration number 486 to Cam Ranh port. After receiving it, Vietnam assigned a new registration number to the ship, 015, named after the famous general Tran Hung Dao. According to some sources, this 487 will have the registration number and name 016 - Ngo Quyen.

The fourth Gepard 3.9 missile frigate of the Vietnam Navy is ready to return home. |
According to the recent travel schedule of the Rolldock Star transport ship, it will take 1.5 months at sea before arriving at Cam Ranh port. Thus, we will receive 2 pairs of 4 Gepard 3.9s in mid-January 2018, the flag-raising ceremony will take place shortly thereafter.
According to Business Online, the warranty for the third and fourth Gepard 3.9 warships built by Russia for Vietnam will last until May 9, 2018. It is not clear whether Russia will provide any further technical support after that time.
Compared to the first pair of Gepard 3.9, the biggest difference of the second pair of Gepard 3.9 is that it has added anti-submarine capabilities with 2 pairs of 533 mm heavy-duty twin torpedo launchers, however, the type of sonar positioning equipment of the ship has not been announced by the manufacturer.

According to Russian military experts, it is very likely that Vietnam will continue to order Russia to build the next pair of Gepard 3.9 missile frigates with superior weapon configuration and comprehensive strength.
Russia brought the latest design model of the Gepard 3.9 ship to the exhibition a few months ago, the biggest change is the longer ship, equipped with UKSK vertical launchers of Kalibr anti-ship missiles and vertical launchers of 9M317ME air defense missiles of the Shtil-1 system.
Besides the prospect of continuing to build Gepard 3.9 ships, it is almost certain that Russia and Vietnam will sign a contract to provide us with a license to build four more Molniya 1241.8 fast attack missile ships equipped with more advanced anti-ship weapons.
