Train derails in France, many casualties
At least two people were killed and 20 others injured when a train crashed in the Alps in southern France, officials said on February 8.
French firefighters said the train hit a rock on the tracks and derailed as it was travelling from the coastal city of Nice to the town of Digne-les-Bains. There were about 34 people on board at the time of the accident.
About 110 firefighters, 32 ambulances and two helicopters were urgently mobilized to the scene. Rescue work was difficult due to heavy snowfall and the remoteness of the accident area.
French authorities are currently investigating the accident. In July 2013, a train derailment near Paris also killed 7 people./.
