Submarine training in Cam Ranh
Submarine Brigade 189, under the Navy stationed at Cam Ranh base (Khanh Hoa), is a newly established unit, according to the decision dated May 29, 2013 of the Minister of National Defense and launched on April 3, 2014.
Brigade 189 has the task of training, combat readiness, and coordinating with forces to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
The establishment of Brigade 189 is an important milestone, marking the birth of a particularly elite combat ship force with high combat capability and efficiency, one of the "iron fists" of the Vietnam People's Navy in performing the task of combat readiness, protecting the sovereignty of the sea, islands, and continental shelf of the Fatherland.

In particular, the submarine force is the final condition for the Navy to have all its branches (surface ships, submarines, coastal artillery - missiles, marines, naval aviation), with enough fighting power to protect the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Currently, Brigade 189 has 2 submarines HQ-182 Hanoi and HQ-183 Ho Chi Minh City. Many criteria for selecting submarine sailors are higher than those for selecting fighter pilots. The reason is: If the pilot of an aircraft unfortunately causes an accident, the damage will only be one aircraft, but for submarine sailors, in addition to the value of the submarine (many times larger than an aircraft), the lives of dozens of officers and soldiers cannot be calculated.

Currently, the crews of the two submarines HQ-182 Hanoi and HQ-183 Ho Chi Minh City have completely mastered and operated the ship and focused on advanced training in techniques and tactics when operating at sea.
