US aircraft carrier to visit Vietnam
The Pentagon announced that a US aircraft carrier will visit Vietnam early next year amid improving relations between the two countries.

Reuters news agency reported that US Defense Secretary James Mattis and Vietnamese Defense Minister Ngo Xuan Lich agreed on the aircraft carrier's visit during a meeting at the Pentagon in Virginia on August 8.
It will be the first visit by a US aircraft carrier to Vietnam since the end of the Vietnam War in 1975.
According to Reuters, last May, US President Donald Trump discussed with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc about the visit of a US aircraft carrier during a meeting between the two leaders at the White House.
According to VNA, at the invitation of Defense Secretary James Mattis, General Ngo Xuan Lich - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of Defense, paid an official visit to the US from August 7 to 10, 2017.
