The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) announced that at 10 a.m. (local time), the above ships entered Japanese territorial waters and left after about 2 hours. This is the 28th intrusion by Chinese ships this year.
The Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands are a small group of islands located about 400km west of the main island of Okinawa Prefecture, currently controlled by Japan, but also claimed by China and regularly sends ships or planes to these waters.
The sovereignty dispute has caused tension in relations between the two countries over the past time, especially after Tokyo nationalized 3 out of 5 islands here in September 2012./.
