As for container ships, after more than a year, the number of domestic transport ships has increased from 19 to over 30 ships.
According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the total transport output of Vietnam's fleet in 2014 is estimated at 98.5 million tons (135.7 billion T.Km), a slight increase compared to 2013 (0.13%). The volume of goods through port group No. 1 continued to grow steadily, reaching 120.3 million tons (up 13%), accounting for 33% of the country. Port group No. 5 reached 162 million tons (up 14%), accounting for 44%. Container output in Hai Phong area reached 3.36 million TEUs (up 18%), in Ho Chi Minh City area reached 4.98 million TEUs (up 6%).
In 2014, the number of Vietnamese ships detained at foreign ports was only 3.49%. This result not only helped the Vietnamese fleet escape the “black list” but also helped bypass the “gray list” to enter the “white list” of Tokyo MOU (Organization of States Parties to the Memorandum of Understanding on Ship Inspections by Port Authorities of Asia-Pacific) after 15 years of being a member of this organization.
According to Mr. Nguyen Nhat, Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, when ranked high in the “white list” of the Tokyo MOU, Vietnamese ships will no longer be subject to “priority inspection” by foreign port authorities. Ships in the Vietnamese-flagged fleet will only be inspected once a year, or even two years or more, by international port authorities instead of once every two months, or sometimes once a month as before.
In 2014, the Vietnam Maritime Administration strictly implemented the policy of increasing sea transport capacity to reduce the load on roads and strictly control vehicle loads. Up to now, 206/222 seaport enterprises have signed a commitment to implement load control. According to statistics from July to the end of November 2014, the amount of cargo transported by SB (sea double-phase) ships on the route from Quang Ninh to Thua Thien - Hue reached nearly 700,000 tons with about 500 ships.
