On July 11 (Vietnam time), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the family of former US President Bill Clinton in New York and visited the United Nations (UN) headquarters.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized the important contributions of former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton to the development of all-round relations between Vietnam and the United States over the past 20 years and considered Mr. and Mrs. Clinton as great friends of the Vietnamese people.

Former President Clinton expressed his hope that the friendly relationship between the governments and people of Vietnam and the United States will continue to develop rapidly and achieve more results in the coming time.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong congratulated and highly appreciated the Clinton Foundation's activities in Vietnam over the past 10 years, especially in the fields of care and treatment of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases, and affirmed that he would create the most favorable conditions possible for the foundation to continue its operations, thereby contributing to promoting the friendly relationship between the two countries and peoples.

On the same day, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York City and met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the UN's formation and development.The General Secretary expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the valuable cooperation and support that the UN and the Secretary General himself have given to Vietnam over the years, especially in overcoming the consequences of war.

Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon highly appreciated the partnership and cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations, and Vietnam's positive and effective contributions to the implementation of the UN's goals.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong also met with a group of intellectuals from Harvard University - a university that has been actively cooperating with Vietnam in the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program in Ho Chi Minh City, and is currently working with Vietnam to build the Fulbright University project, which was recently granted an investment certificate during the General Secretary's visit to the United States.
