Evidence of the case |
Binh is the subject who committed the daring robbery that occurred at the private home of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (born 1991), residing in Hop Tan hamlet, Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop district on June 13, 2016.
According to police documents, on the night of June 13, while Ms. Linh was sleeping at her home at the above address, a young man broke into the house, took her Nokia 1280 phone, then rushed to snatch the gold necklace she was wearing around her neck.
Because the victim woke up and struggled, the necklace broke in half. After stealing half of the gold necklace, the suspect escaped into the darkness. It is worth mentioning that at the time of the incident, Ms. Linh’s mother-in-law was still sleeping on the sofa in the house, but the suspect still recklessly attacked.
After receiving the information and determining that the stolen property was not large, the reckless and daring actions of the subject caused insecurity among the people, Quy Hop District Police urgently began an investigation.

However, because the victim and the witness could not accurately describe the suspect's identifying characteristics, it caused many difficulties in the investigation. While it seemed that the case was at a dead end, suddenly, by professional measures, the detective discovered that on the night of the crime, the suspect used the victim's phone number to call a person named Nguyen Thi LA, who had a registered residence in the area.
Through working with Ms. LA, it was learned that the person who used Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh's phone to call her on the night of June 13 was Tran Van Binh (born in 1986), residing in Son Thanh hamlet, Tam Hop commune (Quy Hop).
Through studying the records, it is known that in 2009, Binh was sentenced by the People's Court of Chu Se District (Gia Lai) to 7 years in prison for robbery. After being released from prison, Binh did not have a stable job and often worked far away in many different locations. At the time when Linh's family was broken into and robbed, Binh was still in his hometown, but later left his hometown to work far away.
With the evidence collected, Quy Hop District Police determined that Tran Van Binh was the perpetrator of the theft and robbery at Ms. Linh's house on the night of June 13, so they issued an emergency arrest warrant. However, at that time, the subject was not present at home.
On July 15, the source said that Binh was in Hung Yen province, so that same night, the working group traveled to Hung Yen province to track the subject.
Verifying the address of Binh's wife, who is currently working at a garment company, it was discovered that Binh is still living with his wife at a motel in Nghia Hiep commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province.
Here, the working group of Quy Hop district police coordinated with local police to arrest Tran Van Binh right at his rented room.
With the victim’s Nokia 1280 phone as evidence, the suspect bowed his head and admitted his guilt. At the investigation agency, Binh confessed that in the early morning of June 13, when he passed by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh’s house, he saw that the lights were still on in the house and so he had the intention to steal the property.
When entering inside, there was no valuable property, only a Nokia 1280 phone on the table, which the subject took and put in his pocket.
Discovering Ms. Linh lying on the bed wearing a gold necklace, the subject's greed arose, he used his hand to snatch the necklace and ran away.
After committing the crime, Binh hid the necklace under a tree next to his house and only retrieved it the next morning. The next day, he took the necklace to a gold shop in Thai Hoa Town and sold it for 3 million VND.
The stolen phone was kept for personal use by the suspect. After taking the suspect’s statement, the Quy Hop District Police went to the gold shop in Thai Hoa Town to recover the evidence and have now completed the procedures to return it to the victim./.
