Names and functions of car parts
To be able to operate a car safely and maintain it properly, every driver needs to know the names of the parts on the car and understand how they work.
It takes about 30,000 machine parts to build a complete car. Below are some basic parts as well as their functions and names.
Exterior parts
The exterior of a car includes the parts on the outside that we can see as soon as a car appears.
Grille
The radiator grille is one of the important parts of the car, designed to allow air flow into the car to help cool and reduce the temperature when the engine is running. At the same time, the radiator grille is also the place to protect the car's radiator and the engine inside.

Most current models place the grille on the front bumper for front-engined vehicles and on the rear bumper for rear-engined vehicles. In addition, some car manufacturers design the grille in front of the wheel to cool the brake system.
Car bumper
Car bumpers are installed in the front and rear of the car to minimize the risk of accidents for people in the car when there is a strong impact force as well as limit damage to other parts of the car.
Bonnet
The hood is a metal frame located at the front of the car to protect the engine compartment inside the car. The hood is designed to open and close easily to support the car owner in maintenance and repair when damaged or need to equip additional car parts.
Headlight
No car on the market lacks a headlight cluster for cars. Because this is one of the important parts, equipped to help illuminate, guide the driver when entering a road with low light or at night or become a signal to ask for the right of way when necessary.
The car's headlights are located on the left and right sides of the front of the car, connected to the hood. Most headlights are designed to produce a strong, focused beam of light that shines horizontally across the road surface and must be able to illuminate at least 100 meters.
In addition, the headlights will be optimized when combined with low beam lights - a type of light that can illuminate near and prevent glare for oncoming drivers. Normally, low beam lights will be installed with the same reflector as the headlights or installed separately, depending on the vehicle model and the user's needs.
Windshield
The windshield is a large glass frame located in front of the car, right on the hood, to protect the driver and passengers from wind, rain, dust or bad weather, as well as limit the risk of accidents in the event of a strong collision.
Rearview mirror
Rearview mirrors are installed on the left and right sides connected to the windshield at the front of the vehicle, helping the driver observe the lanes on both sides when moving or asking for the right of way.
Depending on the vehicle model, the rearview mirror can be folded manually or automatically or has an additional heating system to keep the glass surface ventilated when driving on roads with high humidity.
Names of interior parts
The interior of a car is where the driver and passengers will sit during the entire journey on the road.
Steering wheel
The steering wheel is one of the components of the cockpit system, attached to the driver to move the direction of the vehicle. Depending on the traffic laws of each country, the steering wheel will be installed on the left or right. In Vietnam, the right direction of travel is the right, so the steering wheel will be designed on the left side of the cockpit.
Dashboard
Dashboard: is an information notification system including a screen, indicator lights and various types of clocks such as digital clock, fuel gauge, vehicle speedometer... displayed in the form of needles and numbers.
Control panel: Includes switches to control convenient devices in the car such as: audio control, fan, air conditioner, wiper control, light control...
Main switch (electric lock): designed on the steering shaft, including 4 steps as follows:
+ LOCK: Lock the steering wheel, and the key can only be inserted or removed at this LOCK position.
+ ACC: Only supply power to necessary devices.
+ ON: Only supply power when the machine has finished operating
+ START: Engine start position, after turning the key to this position and the engine starts, the key will automatically return to the ON position.

Brake pedal
The brake pedal is an automobile part designed to stop the movement of the vehicle and maintain a fixed position. The automobile brake pedal consists of:
Foot brake pedal: designed to the right of the steering wheel shaft and between the clutch shaft and the accelerator shaft, has the effect of slowing down the vehicle and stopping the vehicle's movement.
Handbrake: mounted on the right bracket of the steering shaft, has the effect of fixing the vehicle when stopping or parking in a certain position.
Clutch pedal (manual transmission)
The clutch pedal of a manual transmission is a car part designed on the left side of the steering shaft, whose function is to engage or disengage the clutch, disconnecting the transmission from the engine of the transmission to the rear drive system. This means that the clutch pedal is used to start, change gears or brake to stop the car.
gas pedal
The car accelerator pedal is installed on the right side of the steering wheel shaft, right next to the brake pedal, and controls the amount of fuel supplied to the engine system.
Digital joystick
The car's gear lever is installed on the driver's right side with the purpose of controlling the engagement of the gears in the gearbox to change the vehicle's speed.
Driver and passenger seats
For drivers to drive safely, not get tired, and passengers to rest comfortably in the car, the car seat system is indispensable.
Depending on the car model and car segment, whether it is a sedan, hatchback, SUV, MPV, pickup truck, convertible, or coupe, the number of seats will be designed accordingly. Currently, the car with the lowest number of seats is a 2-seater, the most popular are 7-seater, 5-seater and 4-seater.
In addition, the interior and exterior of the car also include function buttons and many other design utilities equipped depending on the brand, luxury or mid-range car segment, and target group. In this article, we only introduce some common and basic names of car parts.
Chassis parts
The car chassis is designed to support all parts of the car, and is the place where the connections are clearly connected so that the parts can operate in the most synchronous way. Simply put, the chassis is considered the skeleton of the entire car, helping to support all the weight of the other parts. At the same time, a good chassis will help the car move smoothly or when there is a strong collision, the chassis will protect the safety of passengers.
Regarding the car chassis or car chassis parts currently used on the market, there are 2 types: separate frame and integral frame. In which:
Monocoque frame: will be manufactured attached to the car body details such as the hood, doors, rear of the car...
Separate frame: the car body and the car frame are produced on two completely different lines and are connected together from the force support frame to the car body support frame.
