Speaking at a meeting of the Red Shirts in Nakhon Ratchasima province on October 29, leader Thani Kwanchai announced that the Red Shirts in 20 northeastern provinces were ready to respond to the anti-government protest campaign of the Pitak Siam group led by retired General Boonlert Kaewprasit.
The statement was made in response to the Pitak Siam group's plans for another protest next month, after the group held a protest at the Royal Turf Club in Nang Loeng district, Bangkok, with about 6,000 participants on October 28.

Mr. Thani said that the Udon Lovers organization he leads is ready to protest anywhere against the Pitak Siam group even though he believes the campaign launched by the Pitak Siam group will not bring results.
The Udon Lovers will operate on its own, without relying on financial support from the Pue Thai Party. He also warned that if the government fails to bring former Prime Minister Thaksin back to the country during his first term, the Pue Thai Party will not receive the support of the Udon Lovers group.
Mayuree Sawatasai, a red shirt leader in Ayutthaya province, said that Pitak Siam is a branch of the People's Alliance for Democracy movement, also known as the Yellow Shirts. Meanwhile, Pue Thai MP and key red shirt leader Korkaew Pikulthong also commented on the possibility of a political party being behind the Pitak Siam protest, as evidenced by the unusual increase in the number of participants.
Mr. Korkaew also accused Democrat Party President Abhisit Vejjajiva of meeting a former lawmaker who runs the Royal Turf horse racing club, who has close ties to Mr. Boonlert, leader of the Pitak Siam group./.
