Thailand pledges to investigate attack on Vietnamese fishermen
On September 21, Mr. Pham Thanh Nam, Minister Counselor, Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand, met with Major General Apichart Suribunya, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Royal Thai Police, Commander of Interpol Thailand, to discuss the incident in which several fishing boats from Kien Giang province, Vietnam, were attacked by Thai ships using weapons, killing one Vietnamese fisherman and injuring two others.

At the meeting, Mr. Pham Thanh Nam expressed deep concern about the incident, protested against Thailand's use of force, violating international law; requested Thailand to promptly conduct an investigation, clarify responsibilities and strictly handle related individuals, notify Vietnam and ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
Major General Apichart said that under the direction of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Royal Thai Police are taking the case very seriously and actively investigating it.
Currently, the Royal Thai Police Command is studying the report of the Coast Guard, and is expected to establish a task force to investigate and verify the incident.
Major General Apichart affirmed that the Thai Government will investigate the case to the end in an open and transparent manner and ensure that the individuals involved, if found guilty, will be strictly prosecuted according to the law, and will inform the Vietnamese Government about the progress and results of the investigation as soon as possible.
Previously, on September 17, the Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an official note requesting Thailand to verify and take strict measures against the individuals involved in accordance with Thai law.
On the same day, September 17, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh requested the Thai side to urgently investigate and verify the incident, clarify responsibilities and handle related individuals, compensate adequately for the loss of life and property of Vietnamese fishermen, and prevent similar incidents from happening, avoiding affecting the Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership./.
