Join Health Insurance: comprehensive health care for students
(Baonghean.vn) - By participating in Health Insurance, in addition to the benefit of having the Health Insurance Fund pay up to 80% of medical treatment costs (if examined and treated at the right medical facility), students also receive primary health care right at school.
This is one of the outstanding advantages, demonstrating the meaning and practical benefits of the Health Insurance policy in providing comprehensive health care for the young generation while still in school.
In order to provide comprehensive health care for students, in Decree No. 146/2018/ND-CP dated October 17, 2018, the Government has specified the allocation of funds from the Health Insurance Fund to serve the implementation of the Health Insurance policy at educational institutions in the national education system. Currently, primary health care at schools is mainly operated from this funding source.
In recent years, the amount of primary health care funding for students deducted from the Health Insurance Fund for educational institutions (including preschools) has continuously increased to VND 603.7 billion (in 2020); VND 656.7 billion (in 2021) and more than VND 696.3 billion (in 2022).

Funds withdrawn from fund Bhealth insuranceused by educational institutions and vocational training institutions to serve the following expenses: purchasing medicine and medical supplies for first aid and initial treatment for children, pupils and students who have accidents or injuries or common illnesses during their time studying at educational institutions; purchasing and repairing common medical equipment for primary health care, document cabinets for managing health records at educational institutions; purchasing stationery for medical examination and treatment activities in primary health care.

Through practical implementation, it has been shown that this funding source has really played a role and been effective in not only helping school health care providers promptly provide first aid and emergency care to students according to regulations, providing technical guidance on medical examination and treatment when emergencies arise during their study, living and practicing time at educational institutions, etc., but also helping to monitor, check and detect early health risk factors for prevention, treatment and ensuring the health of students in the future.
It can be said that in recent years, the allocation of funds for primary health care has contributed to improving the quality and effectiveness of school health activities to ensure and take good care of the health of students.
In the coming time, in the context of the potential risk of epidemics posing risks to human health, health care for students through the Health Insurance policy becomes more important than ever.
Accordingly, in the 2023-2024 school year, the Health Insurance for Students will continue to be vigorously implemented by the Vietnam Social Security sector with the goal of achieving 100% of students participating in and benefiting from the Health Insurance policy./.
In the 2022-2023 school year, the whole country has about 18.8 million students participating in Health Insurance (reaching more than 97% of the total number of students). Thanks to the Health Insurance card, many students with incurable and chronic diseases have had their treatment costs covered by the Health Insurance Fund, amounting to billions of VND. In 2022 and the first 8 months of 2023 alone, the Health Insurance Fund paid 5,316 billion VND to 6.2 million students who went for medical examination and treatment under Health Insurance, of which 634 cases were paid from 200 million VND/person or more, notably, there was a case with the highest payment of 1.07 billion VND.
