May sold 10,000 domestically assembled cars
Business of members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) continued to increase last month with the number of cars sold reaching nearly 10,000 units.

VAMA has not released official figures, but according to a summary from VAMA members - the unit that controls most of the domestic automobile market - in May 2014, members sold about 9,850 vehicles, an increase of nearly 1,650 vehicles compared to the same period last year and almost equal to the business results of the previous month.
Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco) - a 100% domestically owned automobile manufacturer and assembler - has continuously surpassed Toyota Vietnam to maintain its leading position in the domestic market.
Specifically, in May, Thaco had a total of 3,568 vehicles sold, an increase of about 50 vehicles compared to the previous month, and an increase of nearly 1,000 vehicles compared to the same period last year, accounting for 36.2% of the current domestic automobile market share. During the same period, Toyota Vietnam only sold about 2,800 vehicles, accounting for 28.4% of the market share. This is the fourth consecutive month that Thaco has held the leading position and also led the first 5 months of this year in the domestic automobile market with a total of more than 14,360 vehicles of all types sold.
Other members of VAMA also had high sales volume last month, such as Ford Vietnam with 932 cars (an increase of 314 cars compared to the same period last year), GM Vietnam (sold 412 cars, an increase of 84 cars), Honda Vietnam sold 457 cars (an increase of 170 cars)...
In the first 5 months of this year, VAMA members sold about 44,100 vehicles, an increase of nearly 9,300 vehicles compared to the same period last year. According to VAMA, all three vehicle lines including passenger cars, multi-purpose vehicles and commercial vehicles (buses, trucks) sold by VAMA members in the past 5 months increased compared to the same period last year. Specifically, in the past 5 months, VAMA members sold 10,650 multi-purpose vehicles including SUVs, MPVs (up 33%); 15,215 passenger cars (up 28.4%) and 17,275 commercial vehicles (up 19%).
