(Baonghean) -For the past 3 years, at the beginning of July, the wounded soldiers at the 4th Wounded Soldiers Nursing Center look forward to welcoming students from Vinh Medical University to volunteer. With the students, the activities of the seriously wounded soldiers are greatly facilitated...
For many years, the Youth Union of Vinh Medical University has chosen July - the month of gratitude - to show gratitude to the uncles and aunts at the Nursing Center for War Invalids 4. This "red address" is where members of the volunteer student team participate in practical activities such as: caring for and helping the sick, cleaning the nursing area and visiting and distributing medicine. This job usually requires experienced people, but this year's team of 48 volunteer students of future doctors and nurses has more than 90% of first-year students of the nursing faculty. Therefore, it is inevitable that there will be confusion in the first days of getting acquainted with the job.

Sharing about this special job, student Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong - class 32A, emotionally said: The first time we saw the soldiers, we were all speechless because we could not imagine the consequences of war being so fierce. The first few days, although the tasks were simple like helping the soldiers eat, cleaning for them, everyone was skeptical. It took a day or two of guidance from the nurses and nurses in the unit for us to feel confident to do it...
How could it not be difficult when the subjects that the volunteer team members take care of are all disabled people, some of whom cannot even speak or move? Overcoming these obstacles, all members of the team have mastered the job. A volunteer day starts early in the morning with preparing breakfast for the uncles and aunts, followed by cleaning around the central area and the residential area. At two fixed times a day, the future doctors and medical staff examine and give medicine to the wounded soldiers. They also take turns coming to read the newspaper, or sometimes just come to listen to the uncles tell their stories.
Talking about the seemingly “nameless” work of the volunteer students, Mr. Le Xuan Dung – Secretary of the Youth Union of the Nursing Center for War Invalids 4 happily said: The nursing center is currently caring for and treating nearly 80 seriously wounded soldiers, but there are only more than 20 people doing care and nursing work, so the workload is a lot. With the addition of students, we are helped a lot, especially in taking care of the personal matters of the wounded soldiers. The uncles and aunts themselves have been happier, more excited and optimistic since the children arrived.
Also because of this attachment, the volunteer activities of the Medical University students this year are different from the previous two years. That is, instead of "going in the morning and returning in the afternoon", now the whole team stays at the center during the volunteer period. That change comes from the wishes of the wounded soldiers themselves because they confided that "seeing the children going back and forth every day is no different from administrative staff, in the afternoon the center is very quiet" - team leader Hong Phuong recounted. To prepare for this "special" army, the Center's Board of Directors has dedicated the entire dining area and nursing home for the volunteer students. Therefore, even those who live far away like Vinh (Quy Hop), Hai (Yen Thanh), Khan (Ha Tinh) who cannot return home can still rest assured because staying at the Center is as comfortable as being at home...
Along with the common activities, during this time, to prepare for the War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the art cores of the volunteer student team of the University of Medicine and the Youth Union of the Center are preparing a music program. Although the singing voices of the members of the performing team are not really good, we hope that the efforts of the whole team will bring the elderly a meaningful gift on this special day" - student Trinh Xuan Hai revealed.
