Workers' Month in Nghe An: diverse activities for union members and workers

Since April, the Provincial Federation of Labor has issued 4 documents, guiding trade unions at all levels to implement Workers' Month activities closely following the theme, in line with reality, and to develop specific and clear criteria for scoring Workers' Month activities. The Provincial Federation of Labor focuses on directing trade unions at all levels to organize Workers' Month activities in the direction of: Choosing appropriate forms of organization, ensuring disease prevention; regularly grasping information, urging, directing, and guiding trade unions at all levels to implement through online forms.

As a result, 100% of the Labor Federations of districts, cities, towns, and industry trade unions developed implementation plans and directed grassroots trade unions to register at least one activity in response to Workers' Month. Many grassroots trade union units provided written advice to the Party Committee in directing Workers' Month activities. There were 533 grassroots trade unions in the enterprise sector organizing Workers' Month activities, reaching 103%, exceeding the target assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

Besides,Workers MonthNghe An Trade Union also received the attention, leadership and direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Provincial Party Committee, the coordination of the Provincial People's Committee and related sectors. It must be affirmed that the results achieved by Nghe An Trade Union in the Workers' Month were comprehensive and outstanding, creating highlights and spreading power.

Nghe An Trade Union has effectively carried out information and propaganda work, from visual, direct to propaganda on news agencies and newspapers. Specifically, 98% of grassroots trade unions have propaganda slogans at workplaces, on roads and centers; units have designed 499 sets of Workers' Month identification; 796 news, articles and reports on Workers' Month have been published and broadcast on Labor Newspaper, Labor and Trade Union Magazine, Nghe An Newspaper, Provincial Radio and Television Station, Nghe An Trade Union Electronic Information Portal.

Nearly 1.5 billion VND was used to carry out a series of activities to care for union members with specific activities: Giving gifts to 31 workers who had work-related accidents, with an amount of 23.5 million VND; supporting the construction of 09 new "Union Shelters" with an amount of 340 million VND; supporting 18 Labor Federations of districts, cities, towns, and industry unions with an amount of 550 million VND to organize Workers' Month activities at the grassroots level; implementing the program "Going to the workers' dormitory" to grasp the living and working situation, giving gifts to 30 workers who are renting in Hung Tay commune (12 fans and 300 thousand VND/person); organizing the exchange program "Going to the workers' dormitory" with the participation of more than 250 workers...

Along with that, the Provincial Federation of Federations also organized the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with Quang Khoi General Hospital with preferential services reduced from 30% - 40% for union members and workers.

For grassroots trade unions, 100% of units have organized 51 activities to care for and represent workers' rights with a total budget of more than 3.6 billion VND. Of which, the budget of the trade union organization is more than 2.9 billion VND; the budget of the government and professional support is more than 623 million VND. Specifically, 100% of grassroots trade unions directly visited, encouraged, and gave gifts to 1,681 workers in difficult circumstances and those who had work-related accidents with a total amount of over 800 million VND; 100% of district and industry trade unions organized surveys to grasp the situation of workers who are renting accommodation and organized visits, encouragement, and gave gifts to 431 workers with a total amount of over 185 million VND. Organized 18 conferences to meet, commend, and reward workers and civil servants. Signed and implemented 25 union member welfare programs. Constructing and repairing 11 “Union Shelters”. 16 units organized the “Summer Cooling” program, 5 units organized free motorcycle oil changes, 3 units organized the “Zero-dong booth” program, 14 units organized the program“Your health”, 03 units organize voluntary blood donation programs.

The entire system organized 157 direct meetings with the establishments to survey and grasp information related to the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers, more than 2,039 activities, 45 reports, recommendations, and proposals to relevant units to resolve issues related to the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers...

Talk Show Highlights

Talk Showbetween the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and workers is a program that has been cherished for many years and has been implemented during the Workers' Month. In order for the program to achieve its goals, the Provincial Labor Federation has promptly directed the Labor Federations of districts, cities, towns, and industry unions to organize surveys, collect opinions, and synthesize recommendations and proposals from workers in a number of FDI enterprises, workers in Bac Vinh and VSIP boarding houses... Based on the surveys to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of workers, the Provincial Labor Federation has organized a meeting and dialogue between the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and 320 workers and owners of enterprises with a large number of workers in the province.

The conference listened to information and summarized the opinions and recommendations of workers in the province and sent them to relevant departments and agencies through the summary report of the Provincial Labor Federation. Previously, all recommendations sent to relevant departments and agencies were responded to in writing in a very specific and complete manner.

At the meeting and direct dialogue, workers boldly raised many opinions and recommendations to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. The issues that workers were concerned about and made recommendations to were discussed frankly by leaders of departments, branches and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and answered responsibly, fully and thoroughly. That demonstrated the concern and care for workers and the development of enterprises in the province. A number of specific issues were assigned by the Provincial People's Committee to agencies and units to resolve immediately after the dialogue.

At that program, the Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor assessed that the Nghe An Provincial Confederation of Labor had prepared a very methodical program, from collecting opinions and recommendations to synthesizing diverse and rich opinions, all of which were very big issues that workers were interested in. Even in a continuous and open dialogue session, time was still taken to honor 50 exemplary workers and 16 leaders of "For Workers" enterprises.

Sharing experience in organizing Workers' Month activities, comrade Kha Van Tam - Chairman of the Provincial Labor Federation said: "It is necessary to proactively develop plans, determine key contents and forms of organizing Workers' Month activities in accordance with the actual situation in the locality, thereby providing timely direction and guidance. At the same time, proactively advise the Party Committee,government, headAgencies, units, and enterprises lead, direct, coordinate, and support, creating favorable conditions for organizing activities. In addition to trade union financial resources, it is also necessary to promote the mobilization of social resources to focus on activities to care for the material and spiritual lives of union members and workers. Along with that, strengthen and promote the effectiveness of communication work, spread good practices, and effective models of trade unions at all levels.

Most importantly, the Trade Union organization must play a central role, connecting the timely leadership and direction of Party committees at all levels, the synchronous coordination of authorities at all levels, heads of agencies, units, and enterprises, the active response and support of departments, branches, unions, and society to deploy synchronous, widespread activities and towards union members and workers.
