Thanh Chuong: Urgently harvest summer-autumn rice
(Baonghean.vn) -After the recent heavy rains, to avoid damage caused by floods at the end of the crop, farmers in Thanh Chuong district are urgently harvesting the Summer-Autumn rice crop.
By mid-September, localities had harvested more than 5,000 hectares out of 5,800 hectares of summer-autumn rice. The average rice yield was estimated at 45.4 quintals/ha, down 0.63 quintals/ha compared to the plan. According to the assessment of the district agricultural department, this year's summer-autumn rice crop, party committees, authorities and organizations at all levels have taken decisive action in organizing and directing production, and farmers have agreed to comply well with both the seed structure and crop calendar, which has contributed to achieving a fairly high average yield. However, due to heavy rains occurring earlier than usual, people in many places have not had time to harvest. "In addition, people in some areas have a subjective and perfectionist mindset, so even though the rice is ripe, they still wait for strong sunshine to harvest so that they can get both rice and straw. That is why many rice areas in Cat Ngan and Dai Dong are flooded, affecting productivity." Mr. Khanh - an expert from the district's agricultural department said.
In Vo Liet commune, Mr. Phuc in Khai Tien hamlet is harvesting rice with a machine and happily said: This summer-autumn crop, we use medium and short-term varieties, strictly follow the variety structure and crop calendar, and the cooperative undertakes all the land preparation by mechanization, so the average yield is over 50 quintals/ha. During the recent flood, we harvested most of the rice early, some of the remaining areas were not flooded because the fields were on high ground. Because we harvested with a combine harvester, the harvest was very fast, only a few days left to finish the crop. We are taking advantage of the sunny days to urgently harvest the rice, avoiding possible floods at the end of the crop.

Up to now, some localities have completed the harvest, including communes with high yields compared to the district's average such as Thanh Dong, nearly 54 quintals/ha, Thanh Chi 53 quintals/ha, Thanh Yen 51.2 quintals/ha, Thanh Khai 51 quintals/ha... The total output of the district is estimated at over 26,000 tons. Hybrid rice was planted on 688 hectares (TH 3-3 and Viet Lai 20) with a yield of nearly 47 quintals/ha; pure rice (4,891 hectares) with a yield of 46 quintals/ha; other varieties on 249 hectares with a yield of 41 quintals/ha.
According to the report of the district agricultural department, in general, the productivity and output of the main summer-autumn crops did not meet the plan; some localities still sowed directly. To minimize damage caused by weather at the end of the season, the district agricultural department requested localities to finish harvesting the summer-autumn rice by the end of September.
