(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of March 7, the Provincial Forest Protection Department coordinated with Thanh Chuong district to organize a conference to deploy forest management and protection tasks in 2013.

In 2012, although all levels, sectors, district forest rangers, and provincial Forestry Departments coordinated with local authorities of forested districts to implement many measures to strengthen and prevent deforestation in many localities, they still could not completely control the rampant situation of illegal loggers in the area. Deforestation in some places is still quite complicated. In particular, Thanh Chuong and Que Phong were reported by the press as the areas with the most deforestation in the province.

Signing a commitment to protect the forest

Thanh Chuong is a low mountainous district with a relatively large forest area, accounting for more than 64,000 hectares, with many large trees, relatively convenient transportation, creating favorable conditions for illegal loggers to operate. In 2012, Thanh Chuong District Forest Protection Department coordinated with the Provincial Forest Protection Department to conduct 5 inspections on key forest routes, handling 143 violations, confiscating 628.63 m3 of various types of wood, 36 trailers, 30 motorbikes and 6 other vehicles transporting wood, and collecting more than 3.5 billion VND to the state budget. The illegal loggers are increasingly sophisticated, complex and ferocious, mainly concentrated in forested communes such as Thanh Duc, Thanh Thuy, Ngoc Lam, Thanh Son and Hanh Lam.

At the conference, the Provincial Forest Protection Department, Thanh Chuong District Forest Protection Department, Thanh Chuong District leaders, representatives of forest owners, local authorities of forested communes, and border posts, focused on discussing and proposing many solutions to overcome difficulties in forest protection in 2013, preventing illegal loggers from continuing to exploit and cut down forests indiscriminately, especially in key areas: Khe Cam, Khe Mu, Khe Tron, Khe Mang, Khe Veu, etc. in forested border communes of Thanh Chuong District.

At the conference, Thanh Chuong District People's Committee also organized a signing of commitments with forest owners, district forest rangers, border guards, and leaders of communes with forests on forest management and protection in 2013.
