Thanh Chuong strengthens forest management and protection
(Baonghean) -This morning, March 9, 2011, the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district (Nghe An) held a conference to discuss forest management and protection in the Thanh Thuy border gate area.
This is an urgent conference because the primary forest in the Thanh Thuy border gate area is currently being severely damaged, and illegal loggers are blatantly cutting down trees. In Thanh Thuy commune alone, from 2010 to now, the district forest rangers have discovered and handled 43 violations, including 33 cases of illegal transportation of forest products, 6 cases of illegal logging, and 3 cases of violations of forest protection regulations. Nearly 152,000m3 of various types of wood, 15 illegal logging vehicles, and fines of over 172 million VND have been collected.
However, the number of cases handled is still low compared to the actual situation. In order to find practical and effective solutions for forest management and protection in the Thanh Thuy border gate area, at the conference, delegates focused on discussing and unanimously proposed solutions. These are: Strengthening propaganda work; forces such as forest rangers and forest owners need to enhance their roles and responsibilities in forest management and protection.
