Thanh Luong hints at leaving the Vietnam national team

Immediately after the team's defeat in the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016, the midfielder who won three Vietnamese Golden Balls mentioned retiring from his international career.

Thanh Luong has experienced many ups and downs in the national team.

"Goodbye to the shirt I cherish the most. Thank you for everything," Thanh Luong wrote on his personal Facebook page last night, December 7.

Before that, he and his teammates had a 2-2 draw with Indonesia in the second leg of the semi-finals. This result was not enough for the Vietnamese team to advance, as they had lost 1-2 in the first leg. In this match, Thanh Luong entered the field in the 73rd minute, replacing Thanh Trung. He was the one who coordinated the corner kick, creating the opportunity for Van Thanh to score the equalizer 1-1 for the home team.

Thanh Luong was born in 1988, trained at the old Ha Tay youth training center. Although short, he has good personal technique and is left-footed.

He has played 78 matches and scored a total of seven goals since starting his national team career in 2008. The highlight of his career was winning the 2008 AFF Cup, and winning the Vietnamese Golden Ball three times in 2009, 2011 and 2014.

Thanh Luong's first goal for the national team was against Malaysia on December 8, 2008. And if he really retires from international football, his last goal will be in a friendly match against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at Thong Nhat Stadium this year.
