Ho Dynasty Citadel receives World Cultural Heritage Certificate
Tonight, June 16, the ceremony to receive the certificate recognizing Ho Dynasty Citadel as a World Cultural Heritage will take place according to national protocol right at this relic.
Thus, together with Hoi An ancient town, Hue ancient capital, My Son Sanctuary and Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Ho Dynasty Citadel (Vinh Loc, Thanh Hoa province) is the 5th heritage of Vietnam to be recognized as a world cultural heritage.
The Ho Dynasty Citadel is a stone structure that is over 600 years old. It was built from stone slabs averaging 1.5m long, some up to 6m long, stacked on top of each other without adhesives.
The stone slabs weigh an average of 10 - 20 tons, it is estimated that the entire stone wall weighs 25,000m3, the earthen wall about 80,000m3; the total surface area of the stone is currently measured at 10 million m3.
Ho Dynasty Citadel was recognized as a national monument in 1962. It is one of four heritages recognized by UNESCO in the morning meeting on June 27, 2011 in Paris (France) out of a total of 35 proposed monuments.
Mr. Vuong Van Viet, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, said that the province has committed to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on 10 issues, the most prominent of which is to establish a master plan to preserve, restore and promote the value of the heritage.
Activities of the Ceremony to receive the certificate of recognition of Ho Dynasty Citadel as a World Cultural Heritage took place over 3 days, from June 15 to 17 at the Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Site. Including: The 14th Thanh Hoa Province Ethnic Culture Festival; Tran - Ho Dynasty Folk Performance Festival; awarding of the photo contest "Ho Dynasty Citadel Moments"; organizing tours "Journey to the Capital" such as Ho Dynasty Citadel, Lam Kinh relic./.
