Viet Tri city is upgraded to a class 1 urban area.
From a small town, after a period of formation and development, through many stages of construction, planning and building, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province has had a different stature, becoming a famous place for spiritual tourism to the origin of the Vietnamese people and in the future this will be a tourist city of Vietnam and the world, imbued with national identity, beautiful and modern.
With a rapid and sustainable development speed, after just over 7 years as a type 2 urban area, on May 4, the Prime Minister decided to recognize Viet Tri city as a type 1 urban area under Phu Tho province, 3 years earlier than expected.

Viet Tri City is the gateway to the Northwest region, a traffic hub connecting the northern mountainous provinces with the capital Hanoi and the provinces of the Northern Delta, located on the Hai Phong-Hanoi-Kunming economic corridor (China), 50km from Noi Bai airport, 80km north of Hanoi, with a transnational railway running through the area and the main river port system of the region. With favorable conditions, Viet Tri City is considered an important traffic hub connecting the northern mountainous provinces with the provinces of the Northern Delta, playing a role in promoting the economic and social development of the inter-provincial region, having an important position in terms of national security and defense...
In recent years, the city has focused on investing heavily in urban beautification projects such as making sidewalks, pavements, planting public trees, upgrading and expanding many roads, making the urban landscape more spacious and people's lives much more stable. Many roads have been expanded, many large projects invested by the province have been and are being completed, showing the rapid development of the city. Hung Vuong Avenue, the traffic artery of the entire northern region, has been expanded and made more beautiful, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street has just been invested in and built, making the city's landscape more decent.
In particular, the Hung Temple Cultural and Historical Relic Site is being planned to be built on a thousand hectares of land to create a landscape to protect the relic site and build works to serve the Hung Temple Festival. Entertainment areas, commercial services, cultural works such as Van Lang and Bao Da Parks, Hung Vuong Fair, commercial centers, wholesale market systems, food streets, and the grand theater are also being quickly invested in and put into use as soon as possible to serve the people...
To promote economic development, the city has identified the development of industry, handicrafts and craft villages as a lever; in which, it will rapidly and strongly develop industries with advantages in resources such as paper, chemicals, mechanics, electronics, and supporting industries; at the same time, it will speed up the construction of industrial parks and craft villages. In addition, the city focuses on developing the service and tourism industries, in which tourism becomes a key economic sector; developing a number of high-quality service industries such as: finance and banking, telecommunications, information technology, large service centers...
Thanks to that, the economy of Viet Tri city has always developed stably at a high level, the average income per capita in 2011 compared to the whole country was 1.17 times; the average economic growth in the period 2008-2011 was 13.14%/year; the poverty rate of the whole city was 5.4%, of which the poverty rate in the inner city area was 3.34%. The total population of the city is more than 277,000 people, of which the inner city population is 205,765 people. The urbanization rate reached 74.14%, with the inner city population density being 10,586.21 people/km2. The rate of non-agricultural labor was more than 87.71%. The rate of solid, fairly solid, and semi-solid houses in the inner city area reached over 96%....
According to Decision 445/QD-TTg dated April 7, 2009 of the Prime Minister on approving the adjustment of the master plan for the development of Vietnam's urban system to 2025 and vision to 2050, Viet Tri is identified as one of the 12 central urban areas of the country. To promote its strengths, the city will focus on comprehensive development in the near future, focusing on investment in urban infrastructure, development of high-tech industry, tourism services, education and training, and synchronous and modern cultural institutions, gradually turning the city into one of the economic, cultural and educational centers of the Northern midland and mountainous region.../.
