Vinh City celebrates 222nd anniversary of Emperor Quang Trung's death

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 24, 2014 (July 29, Giap Ngo year), Vinh City solemnly held a ceremony to commemorate the 222nd death anniversary of Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue - the national liberation hero, the talented and outstanding general of the country.

Attending the ceremony were Major General Nguyen Sy Hoi - Deputy Commander of Military Region IV, Vo Viet Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee, representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Departments, branches, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee of Vinh province and city and a large number of people and tourists from all over the country came to offer incense and flowers to commemorate and pay tribute to the Hero in red-flagged clothes, an outstanding son of Nghe An homeland.

Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue was born in the year of Quy Dau 1753 in Kien Thanh hamlet, Tuy Vien district, now Tay Son district, Binh Dinh province. His hometown was in Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province. He grew up in the context of feudal dynasties fighting for power at that time, the country was divided, Lord Trinh was in Dang Ngoai and Lord Nguyen was in Dang Trong. With his genius military strategy and the support of people everywhere, the hero in plain clothes Nguyen Hue raised an army to revolt, commanded the Tay Son army to overthrow the Trinh and Nguyen feudal groups, contributing to the unification of the North and South of our country.

During his glorious career, the Emperor led the insurgents to defeat the invasions of the Siamese from the South, with the battle of Rach Gam - Xoai Mut that shook history. Especially in the spring of the year of Ky Dau 1789, with a lightning-fast march to the capital Thang Long, Emperor Quang Trung led the insurgents to defeat 290,000 invading Manchu (Chinese) troops, establishing the great victory of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da, a miracle in the history of the struggle to protect the nation's land. During his great career, Emperor Quang Trung was also the one who proposed many plans to reform, revive the country, develop culture and education. He died at the age of 39, on July 29, Nham Ty year, when his career was still unfinished. The great contributions of Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue will forever be remembered by his descendants.

This year's death anniversary of Emperor Quang Trung was organized by Vinh City in a thoughtful, solemn and respectful manner with grand ceremonies, incense offering and flower offering. A new feature of this year's death anniversary is that Vinh City People's Committee - Quang Trung Temple Management Board in collaboration with Nghe An Museum, Nghe An Library and Song Lam Nghe An Antiquities Association organized an exhibition displaying a number of images, documents and artifacts related to the life and career of Emperor Quang Trung and the Tay Son Dynasty.

The exhibition is displayed according to 3 themes: including 150 artifacts, 40 images, scientific research documents and 60 books related to Emperor Quang Trung and the Tay Son Dynasty. It is known that Nghe An is also the locality that preserves the most artifacts and historical relics from the time of Emperor Quang Trung. This shows the role and influence of Emperor Quang Trung and the Tay Son Dynasty on his homeland, the love and respect of the people of Nghe An for the national liberation hero.

This is one of the few remaining royal decrees from the Tay Son dynasty by Emperor Quang Trung, conferring the title of Heroic General on Mr. Dao Dinh Truat (Royal decree provided by the Dao family in Do Luong district - Nghe An).
