Anxiously waiting for the enrollment plan
(Baonghean) - With many changes, the 2020 High School Graduation Exam will no longer be the first basis for admission to universities and colleges as in previous years. Currently, many schools have announced their admission plans, accompanied by concerns and worries of parents and teachers.
How to teach and learn?
English is one of the four compulsory subjects in the 2020 High School Graduation Exam and is also one of the subjects that is a "weak point" for students in Nghe An. At Nguyen Sy Sach High School (Thanh Chuong), this difficulty is no exception because previously, the school's students were not exposed to English early and regularly. Moreover, taking extra classes to improve English for students in the school is not convenient because students often live far from the center and many of them are still afraid and not interested in this subject.

With this reality, when organizing review sessions for grade 12 students, teacher Nguyen Thi Hong Tam did not set too high a target but only tried to help average students achieve 4-5 points (higher than the provincial average) and good and excellent students could achieve 7,8 points or higher. "During the epidemic break, we also analyzed the structure of the sample exam, focused on analyzing the number of questions and classified them according to each level."
"From there, during the review process, teachers will focus on teaching basic lessons revolving around the level of recognition and understanding so that students can pass the graduation exam. For good students, they will be guided to study specialized topics and given additional National High School exam questions to do at home and get familiar with difficult questions that are highly applicable," Ms. Tam shared.
“Currently, during the review process, the school divides students into 3 levels: the first is high-quality students who go to top schools, the second level is good quality and students usually go to middle-level schools. In addition, the school has 5 general classes and students are mainly divided into streams, not taking university entrance exams. Based on different groups of students, the school will adjust the review to supplement the knowledge that students lack during the online learning process. In addition, the school will soon hold a meeting with parents of 12th grade students to have a plan for extra teaching and review for students until the exam takes place.”
After more than 2 weeks of the Ministry of Education and Training submitting a plan to adjust the National High School Exam into the High School Graduation Exam in 2020, teaching and learning in schools have been adjusted. Mr. Phan Manh Ha - Vice Principal of Le Viet Thuat High School (Vinh City) said: "For this year's exam, we have to innovate the review process to meet two important requirements: equipping students with enough knowledge and skills to do well on the graduation exam and continuing to receive admission information from universities to advise and review for students so that they have enough capacity to participate in separate admission exams".
At Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City), right in the first class, the school checked to have all students re-register their wishes for the exam block and expected schools to register for enrollment.

Based on the survey, Mr. Cao Thanh Bao - Principal of the school said: "Nearly 100% of the school's students will enroll in universities, so this is an important goal of the school at this time. Currently, we have the advantage that students have been divided into blocks since the beginning of grade 10, so they have actively reviewed by block for 3 years. It is expected that by the end of May, the school will complete the grade 12 program and from this week, we will start reviewing for students in the afternoon until the end of June."
"We are also quite assured because compared to last year, although there were adjustments, the review time for students is longer, the amount of knowledge is less, so students have the conditions to review thoroughly. Previously, at the end of the first semester, Huynh Thuc Khang High School and nearly 20 other schools also coordinated to organize a mock exam for grade 12 students and are continuing to prepare for the second mock exam with about 30 other schools in June. The results of the exam will be the basis for teachers to adjust their review accordingly. For students, this is also an important basis for them to correctly assess their abilities and have a plan to choose suitable universities."

As at the University of Science and Technology, if in previous years the school used the results of the National High School Exam for admission, this year the admission has changed quite a bit. Specifically, to enter the technical and economic blocks, candidates must take a multiple choice test combined with a short essay in one session with a time limit of 180 minutes; for English Language majors, the time limit is 210 minutes. This test will combine 3 subjects including Math, Reading Comprehension and a third subject and before taking the test, candidates must also meet additional criteria to be able to register for the school.
Talking about this plan, teacher Cao Thanh Bao - Principal of Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City) added: "With knowledge tests, students are not too worried, but the reading test is completely new and they have no experience in taking the test. Therefore, to register for these schools, students have to review a lot, including knowledge in the fields of science and society."
The entrance exam plan for medical, pharmaceutical and military schools is also receiving attention from many candidates and parents because these schools have not yet announced the exam plan and the possibility of admission based on the results of the High School Graduation Exam is not high.
Regarding this year's admission, the Ministry of Education and Training previously predicted that only about 10% of top schools would organize their own exams. Currently, according to the plan that is gradually being announced, the number of schools that will consider admission based on the 2020 High School Graduation Exam is quite high and this is an advantage for candidates in the upcoming exam. However, when there is still no official admission plan, not only students but also parents are anxiously waiting./.
