“The Vietnam Education Publishing House has changed the paper used to print books from the previous 80-82 ISO whiteness to 73-75 ISO whiteness, to ensure anti-glare and not affect students' vision,” said Mr. Nguyen Minh Khang, Deputy Director of the Education Publishing House.

Previously, a study by the Vietnam Education Publishing House in collaboration with doctors from the Military Medical Academy showed that paper that is too white will cause students' eyes to be dazzled, tired, and over time can easily lead to myopia.

To find the right whiteness, the Education Publishing House and doctors from the Military Medical Academy attached high-resolution cameras near the eyes of 102 students in Hanoi to record close-up images of their eyes and pupils while they read.

The results show that paper with 73-75% ISO whiteness is suitable for printing books and notebooks for students. This whiteness can be applied to textbooks, notebooks, and even printing and photocopying paper.

According to Mr. Khang, immediately after the research results were available, the Vietnam Education Publishing House ordered Bai Bang Paper Company and Tan Mai Paper Company to produce 73-75 ISO paper for printing purposes. Currently, the Publishing House has used the new paper and the books have met the requirements of anti-glare, increased porosity and no imprints on the back./.
