Coach Park "fights side by side" with U22 Vietnam, chooses players to replace Cong Phuong and Xuan Truong
After attending Cong Phuong's debut ceremony at Incheon United Club, Coach Park Hang Seo returned to Vietnam on February 25. Coach Park played the role of a scout when he and U22 Vietnam participated in the 2019 Southeast Asian U22 Championship.
Coach Park and his wife returned home for Tet holiday from January 29, and are expected to return to Vietnam on February 15 to be in time to go to Cambodia to watch U22 Vietnam at the 2018 Southeast Asian U22 tournament.
This is a tournament where the Korean coach plays the role of a scout, looking for young players to supplement the U23 Vietnam team, focusing on March and the 30th SEA Games at the end of the year. According to information from VFF, Mr. Park will accompany U22 Vietnam until the end of the tournament to select the best players to replace the over-aged players such as Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, Duy Manh...

Currently, Coach Park Hang-seo is targeting more than 10 players in the U22 Vietnam team. These players will be playing alongside senior players in the U22 Vietnam team such as Van Hau, Quang Hai, Dinh Trong, Tien Linh, Duc Chinh, Thanh Chung and goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, preparing for the 2019 U23 Asian qualifiers.
According to the draw results, U23 Vietnam is in Group K with 3 representatives from Southeast Asia: Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei (Vietnam is the host). The qualifying round will take place from March 18 to 26, 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The final round will be held from January 8 to 26, 2020 in Thailand. The top three teams of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship will represent Asia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As runner-up in the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, Vietnam U23 is of course the most highly rated team in the qualifying round. VFF has assigned coach Park Hang-seo the task of winning a ticket to the final round, thereby seeking the opportunity to win a ticket to the 2020 Olympics.
After the U23 Asian qualifiers, Quang Hai and his teammates will rest until the end of the year, and have about 1 month to prepare before leaving for the Philippines to attend the 30th SEA Games from November 30 to December 10.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team is expected to have two matches in May and June if negotiations are successful in inviting Liverpool FC and play the "super cup" match with the Korean national team.

In 2019, the Vietnamese team will play 6 matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia. Specifically, coach Park Hang-seo and his team will play their first match on September 5, followed by September 9, October 10, October 15, November 14, and November 19. The opponents of coach Park Hang-seo and his team will be determined after the AFC draws lots for the qualifying round.
Thus, Coach Park Hang-seo's tasks in 2019 mainly focus on the U23 Asian qualifiers, the 2020 World Cup qualifiers and the 30th SEA Games. Also this year, VFF is negotiating a contract extension with Coach Park, when the old contract ends in January 2020.
