Physicians and safe working environment
(Baonghean)- For a long time now, the two words Medical Ethics have not only been raised as an urgent issue in the health sector but have also been analyzed and dissected on many forums when placing it in relation to patients in the market mechanism. However, besides the pain of patients, it is also necessary to acknowledge the "pain" of doctors!
In reality, in many medical facilities, doctors are working in a very unsafe environment. Doctors are being insulted, even being murdered while treating patients every day, every hour, a typical example is the case of doctor Pham Duc Giau - at Vu Thu General Hospital (Thai Binh) who was taken away by the patient's family right after he devoted himself to saving the patient. The hospital's emergency room is the room that often faces the greatest pressure from patients?!
First of all, it must be said that patients and their families do not really understand and share the work of doctors. When hospitalized, everyone wants to be taken care of, examined quickly, and examined first, but in terms of professional principles, there are patients who need to go through the process of monitoring, diagnosis, and consultation to find the most effective treatment plan.
Not to mention that in mass emergency, priority must be given to the seriously ill, and in mass emergency due to disasters, priority must be given to those with the potential to survive. Doctors are not omnipotent enough to turn a dying patient into a healthy one.
Moreover, in the hospital rooms that require high sterility and need to isolate patients, the patient's family members want to join in the group, and when they do not agree, they ask questions or think that the medical staff are making things difficult. The unreasonable demands of the patient's family members have created great pressure for the doctors. The patient's misunderstanding sometimes lies in the concept of "bartering" (how much money can cure this disease). Therefore, many people have tried to give envelopes to the doctors, and when they are refused, they think that the doctors are difficult, or want to ask for more.
Most of the disturbances in hospitals are usually caused by young people, drunk people, and in some cases, there are some... bad people. A doctor made a comparison: people who drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol will be fined and banned from driving, but if these people come to threaten the hospital, we can only... watch. At times like these, doctors have to work while worrying about their own lives!
It can be seen that there is still a big gap in ensuring safety at medical facilities today. Hospitals have no choice but to use "self-protection" measures such as hiring bodyguards and increasing security. However, the above measures do not really solve the problem. Resolution 46 of the Politburo affirmed: "Medicine is a special profession, which needs to be selected, trained, used and treated specially...". Thus, in addition to condemning acts of pressuring and threatening medical staff, it is necessary to propagate so that people understand and share with those who are performing the noble task of "treating and saving people", especially needing to soon have a specific legal corridor to protect them.
