Exercising in middle age can help protect your heart, according to a new study.

According to BBC, scientists have conducted research on the effects of exercise in middle age. The number of people surveyed was about 4,000 people. The results were very positive. Even for people who just started exercising in their late 40s and 50s, exercise is still beneficial for the heart.
Scientists also added that this exercise does not refer to muscle exercises in the gym but only light, moderate activities. A week, middle-aged people only need to spend 2.5 hours practicing. The positive connection between these activities and cardiovascular health can make many people change their habits.
In a study published in the journal Circulation, people who exercised 2.5 hours a week had better health indicators. Inflammatory markers in their blood decreased. And as a result, their risk of heart disease decreased. Even people who started exercising in their 40s saw positive changes in their health, compared to those who did not exercise.
This conclusion remained even when the researchers took into account other factors, such as obesity and smoking. Dr Mark Hamer, of College London, who led the study, said: “We should encourage more people to be active – for example, walking instead of taking the bus. You can get health benefits from moderate activity at any point in your life.”
Maureen Talbot of the British Heart Foundation, which funded the study, also reiterated that exercise has a major impact on heart health in middle-aged people. Being active is a great way to keep your heart healthy.
