Mr. Pham Thanh Tung, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, General Department of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, who attended this conference, announced that Da Nang is the only city in Vietnam named in the above list.

Da Nang is expected to receive a grant of 600,000 USD from the World Bank for research projects and evaluation of environmental improvement efforts.

In June 2012, Da Nang submitted four typical projects to limit carbon emissions into the natural environment, including: projects using electric bicycles, subways, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and using new energy, and building a rapid bus system.

In August 2012, APEC agencies conducted a field survey of the projects in Da Nang before deciding to announce the city on the list of 20 mentioned above.

At a green economy conference held in Da Nang in September, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment said the city had taken measures to reduce 12,000 tons of carbon emissions into the environment through energy-saving projects.

In the 2016-2020 period, Da Nang aims to ensure that all criteria for an environmental city are met, such as 100% of industrial and domestic wastewater is treated; 70% of solid waste is recycled; 25% of water is reused. Da Nang strives to complete the construction of the "Environmental City" project by 2020.
