(Baonghean) - The historic days of April, the memories of the soldiers who experienced the war are like a slow-motion film, through each story, each photo, each artifact will be invaluable evidence for today's young generation to better understand the past and appreciate the value of peace.

April Diary

Colonel Nguyen Huy Huong - Chairman of the Nam Dan District Veterans Association has spent 40 years in the military. When invited by the Board of Directors of Kim Lien Secondary School (Nam Dan) to speak on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the liberation of the South, he felt restless.

On the day he returned to school, the old veteran put on his familiar old uniform. The belongings he brought with him were stories associated with the soldier's life that he and his comrades had gone through with many unforgettable memories...

“Peace Day” is the theme of the extracurricular program organized by Kim Lien Secondary School to celebrate the Liberation of the South - National Reunification Day on April 30; this is considered a very practical and useful activity containing much enthusiasm from teachers and students.

The highlight of the program was a talk lasting more than 60 minutes by Colonel Nguyen Huy Huong about the 56 days and nights he and his comrades in the 5 armies entered to liberate Saigon.

The school's students were told by him about his life story, as the only son in the family, when he was a student at the Maritime University, he voluntarily wrote an application to join the army while still in college. After that, he went through many battlefields, participated in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the Southwest Border Campaign, was mobilized to Laos and was wounded 3 times, but he never wavered in his soldierly spirit.

His story also helps students of Kim Lien Secondary School understand more about a difficult but heroic period of the nation. In which, to achieve the final victory, there was a great contribution from many outstanding children of Nam Dan district.

The series of activities of “Peace Day” also has many other practical contents such as screening historical films, exhibitions of books and paintings, and documentary photos about April 30. Previously, Kim Lien Secondary School was also one of the leading schools in Nam Dan district in organizing activities about the source and propaganda of revolutionary education. The most impressive of which is the school’s pioneering in building the Truong Sa sovereignty marker on the school campus.

We built the Truong Sa milestone for 3 years, and for the same amount of time, the school's students have learned history and learned about the country's history through vivid visual lessons... At school, there are currently 16 classes and each class is named after an island in Truong Sa such as Nam Yet Island Team, Sinh Ton Island Team, Son Ca Island Team, Song Tu Tay Island Team...

Student Luu Thi Phuong Anh - class 7A, said: Before, when studying History, we were often shy because of the many figures and dryness. But thanks to extracurricular activities such as the "Peace Day" program, thanks to the school's many innovations in history education, I am really interested in this subject.

For our young generation, learning history also helps us better understand our country's exciting past and be proud of the achievements that our ancestors worked hard to build.

Student Luu Thi Phuong Anh - class 7A, said

Love peace and learn to be grateful

What is war and how do you feel about peace? This is the question that teacher Chu Minh Anh Tho asked her students in a 15-minute Literature test. The test was open-ended and was for students majoring in Biology at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted (Vinh City), so it was thought that they would not be able to "pick up" much.

But then, teacher Chu Minh Anh Tho was also surprised by her students: “I chose this topic on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the liberation of the South with the hope that this would be an opportunity for the students to express their thoughts and feelings about the country and the significance of the nation’s struggle. I was also very happy to read their essays and believe that today’s young generation is not indifferent to history and the past.”

With this test, student Nguyen Viet Anh - class 10A5 also said that he was really excited to express his views for the first time. Viet An also asked a very good question at the beginning of the article: "Have you ever wondered what war is that the whole world must join hands to fight against its presence?".

There are many different answers to this question, but the consequences are the same when war "takes away happiness, takes away loved ones, takes away all the most precious things of millions of people".

“I understand war and therefore above all I love peace.”

Student Nguyen Thi Cuc

Peace is felt more clearly every time we celebrate April 30, “the day when millions of Vietnamese hearts beat together, the national flag fluttered”. On that day, whether old or young, those who have experienced the fierceness of war or are lucky enough to live in peace, will have to “learn to understand” to see more the value of freedom and appreciate and be grateful to those who fell for national independence...

On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, many gratitude activities were organized by students throughout the province. This "return to the source" activity is also a meaningful opportunity for the younger generation to better understand the heroic and glorious struggle of the nation, to arouse love for the Fatherland and for them to be aware of and see their responsibility to their homeland and country...
