Another death from A/H1N1 flu

This is the second case in Ha Giang of death from this disease.

Mr. Tran Duc Quy, Director of the Department of Health of Ha Giang province, said: the patient is Ban Thi Lanh, 15 years old, residing in Na Bau village, Ngoc Duong commune, Ha Giang city, hospitalized on June 28 with symptoms of severe cough, high fever, difficulty breathing and lethargy, diagnosed with respiratory infection, treated at the infectious disease department.

However, after treatment, the symptoms of the disease worsened, with lung damage appearing. Tests at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology showed positive results for the A/H1N1 influenza virus.

The hospital transferred the patient to the intensive care unit and treated him according to the A/H1N1 influenza protocol. However, due to the serious progression of the disease, the patient died on July 4 after 7 days of treatment. Immediately after that, the Ha Giang Provincial Department of Health directed the disinfection of the patient's treatment area and implemented disease prevention measures for those who had contact with the patient.

Previously, at the end of May 2013, Mr. Nguyen Van Lieu, 56 years old in Lung Sinh village, Viet Lam commune, Vi Xuyen district also died from the A/H1N1 flu virus.

Director of the Department of Health of Ha Giang province Tran Duc Quy added: As soon as the disease appeared, the Department of Health organized the deployment to the leaders of the units and to the medical stations about the contents of flu prevention in general, including A/H1N1, H5N1 and H7N9 flu...

At the same time, doctors in the whole province have been trained on prevention and detection of influenza patients and respiratory diseases. However, due to the sporadic occurrence of the disease, it is very unpredictable and difficult to implement prevention work./.
