(Baonghean.vn) - This new school year, Xa Luong Secondary School (Tuong Duong) has more than 60 students at risk of dropping out, most of them are children from Na Be village. The work of persuading them to return to school is facing many difficulties.
Na Be village is located in the middle of a valley by the Ang stream, 15km from the center of Xa Luong commune, and is home to about 100 Khmu ethnic households. According to data from Xa Luong Secondary School, as of August 22, nearly 30 students had not yet come to class. Therefore, Mr. Tran Hung Thai - Principal of the school coordinated with Mr. Cut Hong Quan - teacher of Xa Luong Primary School, Na Be location and Mr. Hung Van Khoa - Head of the village to mobilize the students to continue going to school. |
To reach the families whose children have dropped out of school, one must follow a path at the end of the village that is eroded and slippery during the rainy season. |
Many families in the village were away from home. |
Instead of going to school, many children play with each other. |
Mr. Moong Van Khanh's family has a daughter, Moong Thi Ai (grade 7A), who has not yet gone to school this year. Mr. Khanh said that nearly 3 months ago, when he just finished summer vacation, he came home from working in the fields and did not see his daughter at home. The villagers said that Ai had left home and had only contacted her once. Mr. Khanh did not know where Ai was, and the people of Na Be thought that she had been taken to China. |

Moong Thi Ai's backpack containing clothes hung on the wall, covered with dust. |
Mr. Moong Van Duc (right), parent of Moong Van Xieng (class 9C) explained that because of his poor family background, he could not afford to send his child to school to continue his studies. |
Similarly, Mr. Noc Van Hanh also presented his difficult family circumstances, not being able to afford for his son Noc Van Chung (grade 9A) to continue going to school. |
Hearing that at the end of the village there was a group of students who were sitting around without school, the mobilization team came to find them but they scattered in many directions, some of them locked their doors and hid in their houses, the teachers had to stand and call each student's name... |
Finally, the teachers called some students to find out the reasons for dropping out of school. |
Boy Xeo Van Xay (class 8B) told the principal that he had to skip school because he didn't have a bicycle... |
Ven Van Pheng (class 9A) said he doesn't like going to school and wants to stay home and herd cows. |
Finally, Mr. Tran Hung Thai consulted and decided to organize a meeting exclusively for parents of Na Be village to listen to their thoughts and opinions and find ways to resolve difficulties and obstacles, creating conditions for children at risk of dropping out of school to continue going to school. |
